Working up loads for new Shilen 308win
I just searched for a recent update on ranges in Texas and Oklahoma where one my shoot at 1000 yards. There are still very few places from what I can find. Some have restrictions that make it impractical to test new equipment, reloads, marksmanship techniques.

If anyone has a comprehensive list of 1000 yard ranges in Texas and Oklahoma, I would appreciate some feedback. I plan to get into building high quality rifles for long range shooting, once I graduate from gunsmith school.

You have Bayou Rifles immediately south of Houston. They have 1000 yard shooting. Also, I believe, there is a range out in Lubbock, Texas>>>it is relatively new.

Thank you for the input. In order to survive encroachment of unscrupulous developers, it seems ranges need a buffer zone of 1/2mile on either side and 2 miles down range. Otherwise, complaints from new construction seems to build to a legal breaking point and the range closes. Some private ranges have purchased enough land, however access seems to be limited and memberships are expensive. Just an impression I have from anecdotal evidence of closed ranges.

It seems there are other parts of the country where 1000 yard shooting thrives. I am wondering what the differences might be that promote and support long range shooting sports.

Any idea if these ranges hold competitive events? Are they member only? Are the targets built for the type of shooting most of us shoot ie not just a steel "gong" to blast away at?

What happened with the Spindler Arms range in Robert Lee just down the road from Tad Emert? They had ranges out past 800 meters I thought.

I appreciate all the input here on ranges. My goal as a gunsmith is to build outstanding long range rifles and high quality shotguns for discriminating sportsmen. Once I have completed the training program, I plan to visit each range and introduce myself.
