1000 yard magnification req.

However, that said, I plan on starting to shoot in the Any/Any division using my AR-15-based FTR rifle. In anticipation of that, I already removed the 36X fixed power scope and replaced it with a 6.5-20X Nikon because I know that I will be facing the dreaded wobble without my beloved Sinclair bipod and Protektor rear bag. ;D

But this does not apply to this thread.

Hey Deny, a little while back I was out to Bayou on a Friday shooting with Stacy. He had one of those rifles you are describing and he had a Sightron III 10-50... It shot VERY well and I believe he was on 50 power, but not exactly sure of that..

I understand that>>>You would be just starting out. But you could turn the power down on the Sightron and once you get a bit more adept, you have the residual power you might want to try out..

Yes, I could do that. I could also board a spaceship and go visit Mars.

I already had the Nikon scope and this is just for fun, something to try. Just trying to go back to my days with a Service Rifle, but this time, without having the rapid fire and the various positions and helping me with my aging eyes. It's almost like F-class for Service Rifle shooters.

ShootDots,

I have the Sightron and think it's kinda tough clearing up the side parallax off hand, it has a very small window to clear it up and is blurry otherwise..On 50x power anyway.

No doubt, in that game there is going to be another set of obstacles to overcome. But many have... It just comes down to figuring it out.. When I first started into F-Class, I had never shot prone before. There were a lot of new areas of concern to figure out, like any new "game" we take on... That's part of the fun of it!!

Just shot my first match at 1000 yards a while back. I have the 12-42 nightforce and we were shooting at steels roughly 5,7 and 10 inches in diameter. Having the 42x was nice but I found myself dialing the magnification down to 12x so I could see misses by impacts on the berm. Plenty of elevation on the turrets and a 20 MOA rail seems to be a bit more important. After that having variable power is really handy.

Ok, now that I have thought about it I went a head and bought a 12-42 from a friend. I am going to add some Kelbly rings and call it a day. I cant wait to get it mounted. The quality is wonderful.
