100 gr Nosler pt 25 cal. #16317

I can't get my old Ruger 77 257AI to shoot anything over 100 gr. consistently accurate. Believe me I have tried everything. It does shoot 100 gr Hornady IL sub moa. I'm thinking about trying the Nosler 100 gr Partition as it is the shortest stout bullet I can find. What kind of performance are you guys getting from this bullet. Main use is venison. Thanks, Barlow

I have not fired any in my 25-06, but have put quite a bit of venison on the table with Nosler Partitions fired from a .243 I have attached photos of front and rear views of a Partition recovered from a whitetail. It has been from a few years back, so I can't give yardage, etc., specifics. I do know that most I have recovered look like this and have almost identical weight retention.

It will work well on deer. Good shot placement and he will hit the ground on the spot.

Not a better hunting bullet made.
Start gathering recipes, like chicken fried Venison with onions and peppers, or Venison front leg roast with mushroom soup wrapped in foil and cooked slowly in a Webber kettle grill with a little apple wood smoke ;D

I've taken over 100 whitetails with my old Ruger 77 25-06 that my wife bought me on our first wedding anniversary 35 years ago. At first I tried the heavier bullets, but like you my 77 would not shoot them well. I finally listened to an old man who had been killing deer with the 25-06 since it was introduced. He told me you could take deer all day long "as far as you can see them", with the 100g bullets. I settled on the Nosler 100g "solid base boattail" bullet. My gun would shoot them in 1/2" all day long. I took deer out to 450 yds. with that combination. When Nosler introduced the ballistic tip, they quit making them. The BTs would never shoot quite as tight as the old solid base, but they were just as deadly. I used the same bullets in my 257 Roberts with the same results. I say stick with the 100s, they are proven. Good luck!

I have used the 100 gr Hornady IL in this rifle for years and killed a bunch of deer drt. The bullet is always totally destroyed and I just thought a little stouter bullet might be better, but maybe it isn't necessary. Barlow

The Nosler will certainly hold together. I have found that the Rem CL and Speer hotcore hold together a little better than Hornady but there is not a lot of difference. No doubt, the partition is in a different class. It might be a few hundreths longer due to the belt.

It is a little longer, but it's shorter than most. I'll give them a spin. I think I'm going to use my old 96 Swede 6.5x55 in Michigan this fall. It likes the 120 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip hunting bullet. Thanks Barlow

I also have a 6.5x55 based on a M70 action. Use 120gr. Barnes TTSX and it is a wonderful cartridge and load. Have used up to 160 gr. and they all kill deer like lightening but the lighter TTSX is the best of the lot.
Good hunting
Bill
