10 MOA One Piece Mount

timeout

I was speaking with a gunsmith yesterday that told me Brownells used to sell a one piece, 10 MOA scope base. It was made by someone from Canada. I called Brownells tech dept. and the fellow did not know about those bases. They also did not have any 10 MOA bases to sell me. I am asking if anyone here can direct me to the fellow from Canada, or reccomend a source for a 10 MOA base? Short of that, I guess the Burris rings with offset inserts would be the easiest way. Thanks.

Why 10? Just curious. There are plenty of mounts out there with 20 and I have yet to have that be too much for my scopes to dial down.

It is near manufacturing in canada. They are very pricey so badger might be an alternative or egw as they make 2 grades of mounts in many configurations,I hope this helps.

These are for a buddy. He will be shooting 5-600 max and probably zero near 300. With a 20 MOA, the scope adjustment would likely be beyond optimal. Yes, there would be enough adjustment. Persons much more knowledgeable than I say that for maximum scope performance, the scope adjustments should be at or near center. This will be a high end rifle and we want everything as near perfect as possible, including the scope being close to the center of the turret travel. Too fussy? Maybe, but if Tony Boyer takes great pains to have his scope adjustments centered for the yardage he shoots, so will I and my friend. In other words, the more perfect our equipment, the less our poor shooting skills will matter! ;D

Thanks again Jon. Sure wish I had your knowledge. I will google Near MFG. and also check out Badger & EGW.

I have a stainless near mount on a savage and it fit perfectly and the mounts slide with little pressure so I feel it is defintely one of the best rails I have had period.I top them all with the burris signature rings for any misalignment caused by the gun companys. One other note,if you own a bushnell or baush&lomb or some of the sightrons and leupolds a 20 moa will make it impossible to zero at 100 yds.

I found the Near website and forwarded it to my friend. I am guessing that is what he will want. Badger lists 0, 15, and 20, but no 10. I put Burris signatures on my last mount job. I believe that I will like them OK. I used to lap and bed all my rings.

Anyone have anything to document this?

Or is this another 50yr old wivestale?

The closer the reticle center is to the top or bottom of the tube the less windage adjustment you will have. If you keep the reticle in the center you will have the maximum windage that your tube diameter will allow. This is one of the things that favor a 30mm scope tube vs. a 1" tube.

This is why I go for as much toward the bottom as possible. My guns are all zeroed @ 100. I won't need much windage there. As I dial up I come closer to center where, for my shooting, I'll need the most windage available. If I'm dialing all the way up with a 20 MOA base I'm probably beyond my current shooting skill distance anyway :D

Tony Boyer's Book of Rifle Accuracy. I will never be a good enough shooter to dispute what he says. He not only talks the talk, but he has the records to back it up. At my age, I need to learn from those that have already mastered the skills. There are just not enough years left in me to figure it all out on my own. You may have more time left than myself. I appreciate every piece of info that people contribute to accurate shooter website. Don't get me wrong, I do sort it out in my mind, but it doesn't take a brain surgeon to recognize a man that knows where of he speaks.

I've been wanting to buy one of his barrel vises, so perhaps now is the time to combine an order. Thanks for the input.
