10-22 Target barrels

Does anyone have first hand knowledge of barrel that tends to give the the best accuracy in a 10-22 when it's got a bolt that correctly head spaces the rim and the Kidd trigger . There's Kidd , Shilen , and Fedderson I think at the top if I didn' t overlook someone . Suggestions ? Don't tell me to start out with a different rifle , there's a reason here . Thank you in advance for your time .

I took a chance and ordered a "micro-groove" barrel from Stocky's. At 50 yards it's as bad as 6 MOA with some ammunition but with Eley Club it shoots 1 MOA, sometimes a little better. Eley Edge is better at around 0.7 MOA but it does not feed reliably (it's not intended for semi's). I've yet to try Match OSP. Club is cheaper by about $4 per 50 so I will probably stay with it.

If I may...

About 7 years ago I went with a Volquartsen straight cylinder barrel for my 10/22 and haven't regretted it since. I got mine through Midway USA if I remember correctly.

^^ Looks like they have more offerings now than they did 7 years ago, from my memory.

I shoot the crap out of it with plain-jane Winchester 36gr HP in the "333" bricks and it holds 1.5 MOA or less past 100 yards. Wreaks havoc on the ground squirrels in the in-laws' alfalfa patch in summer time.
Back after I first got the barrel on it I had some Winchester High Velocity HP loads that printed 1 MOA on paper at 100 yards consistently. But they were a touch more expensive so I didn't keep up on using them.

I’ve run and/or still running mostly Kidd, a couple Green Mountain, and one Fred. Projectile fit inside their Bentz or Bentz like chambers means more to the barrel’s accuracy potential than who dunnit. Mini-Mag HP and other similar HV critter whacking stuff that they like will average ~ 5/8” at 50 yards. Standard velocity stuff intended for paper killin’ will average ~ 1/2" at 50, and will do better when I’ll spend for the better stuff.

best accuracy will be a search in ammo. It took me 10+ varieties of ammo to try and see what shoots. And some like Norma-Tac do great at 50 yards are unacceptable at 100 yards. Wolf Match has dome well for me. Eley, usually the higher in quality one goes, the better it shoots.

I am running a 10 year old Adams and Bennet barrel, and it shoots well. It came with a warning that some .22 would have issues chambering, but it never has. bedding tutorial from Rimfire Central really helped tighten up the group.

good luck, you will never get Anshutz accuracy, but you can get close.

What OleFreak said. We have found little difference (other than what brand and type of ammo they like, the constant battle with .22RF barrels) among Volquartsen, Green Mountain, Kidd and Fred Feddersen's barrels.

subd...

My Green mountain fluted 18" shooting Norma TAC has been a major tac shooter. I fell back in love with my 10/22 after this setup.

I have had very good luck with an ER Shaw barrel I bought from Midway several years ago. It literally shoots one ragged hole at 50 yards with wolf ammo or center x. Maybe I just got lucky and got a good one but it has been very good for me. Maybe not anshutz good, but close enough for informal matches. It was a stainless .920 bull barrel.

A few years back, I rotated a number of barrels onto my 1022 in search of the "ragged hole", one of which was a Green Mountain. I ended up leaving a Lilja on.

Lilja. Have one and it shoots amazing-little pricy but wonderful and more accurate that I am capable of shooting.

It appears that all of you have different makes of barrels shoot very well for you and shoot great groups and they may be but is it hunting or target groups ? The fault may be mine in that I didn't make that clear . I'm aware of all the things it it takes to shoot groups 1/4" or better consistently , I'm looking for a barrel that is capable of that if I do my part . Anyone want to take part now ?

If you want .25" or less groups go with Lilja- Hart-Shilen and a few other who make benchrest quality barrels. I have Lilja and Hart and they both shoot amazing.

I put green mountain .920 barrels on 3 different 10/22s. with wolf match extra and 10 shots at 25 yards, the group was the size of a small button. at 50 yards, 10 shots of wolf match extra could be covered with a dime.

Appreciate the thoughts and help but I have decided to go with a Lilja but still might try a Fedderson in addition at some point . Thank you !!!

I don't think you will be disappointed with the lilja. If yu haven't already done so, I would recommend bedding the rear area of the receiver and placing a soft plastic self-adhesive button (used to dampen cabinet doors when slamming) between the stock forend and barrel about 1 1/2' from the end of the forend. Carefully record torque setting of your hex-head action screw so it can be repeatable each time the gun is cleaned. The application of this method made a bigger difference than a few of the barrels I tried on my 1022. Good luck!
