1 tractor + 1 shotgun shell

Where do you think the lead shot went?
Out the pipe into the ceiling? = no birds in the rafters.

stay safe

It’s a Field Marshall tractor with cartridge start. Some aircraft engines also started this way. Watch the old Jimmy Stewart movie “Flight of the Phoenix”. There’s a scene that revolves around an argument over whether or not they should use any of their precious cartridges to test the engine before takeoff.

Here is part of the scene from Flight of the Phoenix. If you’re not familiar with the movie, a twin engine plane goes down in the desert. The people onboard take the plane apart and build a single engine plane so they can get the heck out of the desert. Kind of a cool movie.

Btw if anyone has an 8 gauge empty shell, I would love to put one on my desk.

That was a wick he put in the front I think.
Ive seen the video before but never wondered about that.

I never knew where the tech came from. In the late '70s I drove truck for a company named Mitchell Transport, We had the contract to haul all of Lehigh Cement and they had air starters on their trucks and they worked GREAT! There was one that had a leaky tank but I don't remember the #. Everything I had driven before had at least 4 BIG batteries and all these needed was a regular small automotive battery. Of course we had the advantage of stuff that didn't sit long. Even that one that had a leaky tank always started for me although it would be on the end of the air.
Mitchell Transport for me was located in Mitchell IN but that is a coincidense They were actually a great big company owned by leaseway who owned just about everything including roadway and yellow freight. Best job I ever had-good money and insurance, home every night, Then Reagan stepped in and deregulated trucking at the same time he fired all those air traffic controllers.--Ruined Us-- the good old days were in the past.
The thing is I really Identify with Reagan but I don't relish what he did to me personally. I already had 8 years in there along with 4 in the USMC from '74-'78 with about 15 below me on the board and would have undoubtedly retired from there and we had just signed a new contract the prior summer then BOOM with the stroke of a pen I was done.
OH woe is me- I've done alright for myself, but can't help but look back and think it might have been better
You young guys should keep it in mind that you need to do what you can to protect your job.

interesting, this was a dutch video judging by the licence on the tractor and what I could make out from their speaking.

You mean like this?? Sorry, but this is the only one I have. They use these at a nearby coal fired power plant to remove the slag from inside the firebox. This one has a lead slug similar to a Remington "buck hammer". Shown next to a 20 ga Fox double for scale, sorry, I don't have another "normal" gauge shell to set next to it handy.
