What caliber and bullet would you use to make a shot on a prairie dog at 1 mile 1760yds.?????

For those who have accomplished this OR further what were you using???

Don't know if you read this thread, but very interesting as to a mile shot or even further.

I have killed some at 1625 yards using a 7 WSM and 180 Berger VLDs. I got 3 with 95 tries. There is a new rail system that can give more than enough elevation. As I recall, I was at about 45'. Elevation goes up rapidly at that distance.

No it is not. Gorddy Gritters and Bill Shehane were going for two miles several years ago and would have had a kill if the prairie dog had not moved. It took 8 seconds for the bullet to arrive. The prairie dog moved after 4 seconds. The bullet hit where it was. Another hit between two. As I recall, the bullet went up over 800 feet, so they had to keep an eye out for airplanes. They discussed it at the VHA Jamboree 5 years ago.

Type birdog into member search and read through his posts, I am not sure his furthest GH shot but in a phone conversation with him somewhere in the 1400 yard range sticks in my mind and he has a life size metal GH that he has hit at one mile here just recently and it didn't take many shots to do it,.....
6Dasher. His friend Voldoc and himself shot gh's at over 1000 yards with a 20 cal??... Vartag maybe, I know 20 cal and Berger bullet.

I would probably try a hot 7mm myself. I have shot a coyote out to 1400+, took 1 shot. Walking bullets in is a little fudgy but I guess it works. I like to think that you have to make that first shot count!

Oh, I used a 6.5-284 but think the 7s might have an advantage beyond 1500 yards.
