1 load won't shoot....

Someone please explain to me why 55gr Hornady SXs on top of 26.0 of BLC-2 in new LC brass will not shoot out of my 1 in 9" twist barrel of my AR. EVERY other bullet I have shot, and every LOAD I have tried in the past 4 years, has shot into a reasonable group at 100 yards, with most very near 3/4", some close to 1/2". I loaded these like other 55 grainers in new military cases, on the mild side, but I cannot hit the 5 foot by 5 foot backstop at 100. Switch to any other bullet and groups are back to normal. This ammo DOES shoot well in a friend's AR with the same twist. I am going to give them away but really would like to understand WHY this is happening. ?? Also, at 25 yards the bullets hit sideways, so they are doing funky things on the way out. But I would like to know WHY, or HOW, this is happening with only this one particular bullet.

SX stands for super explosive meaning the bullet has a thin jacket so the bullet will break up on contact. That being said you may still be driving them to fast causing them to disintegrate long before hitting a target. Some say you can see a puff in the scope lens as they explode. Plus you are shooting a 9 twist and when these bullets were first made the common twist rate was 1 in 12 which means the bullet rpm's is slower to begin with.

I considered that, but out of a .223 I seriously doubt that they are falling victim to rotational disintergration..Out of a Swit or a 22/250 I could maybe see it. My buddy's AR has the same length 1 in 9" twist barrel and shot 'em ok.... All of the standard, logical reasons for such a thing I have considered but they do not seem to hold water. They are coming out unstable, obviously, and tumbling. Crown is still perfect, no rough places in the barrel, velocity can't be over 3100 altho I have not checked it...I know they are slow and 'safe' as far as pressure...I have had the 22/250 do the same thing when going to a heavier, longer bullet with the slow twist and long throat and I COULD see the ' cloud of disintergrating bullet' but am puzzled with the 223...One of those things that makes one wonder...

I shot the crap out of them in my 22-250 at 3600 there about. I think you need to push them haEder. Go up another 1/2gr and try
My 1-7/1/8 twist wouldn't shoot them inside a 12" circle. My 1/9 shoots them at 1" or thereabouts. I load 26gr TAC AT 2.220-225

I have blown them up in a 14" twist at 3,500 fps

They were designed for the 222 and 222 Mag in 14" twist barrels, back before anyone ever made a factory 12" barrel.

Sometimes you can get away with faster, but don't count on it.

If you can't hit a 5'x5' backstop at 100 yards, the bullet is not making it downrange, period. The exact why may differ, but the bullet ain't getting there.
