1 in 9 Twist Barrel for Ruger 10/22?

I noticed online a vendor offering a 16-1/2" barrel for the Ruger 10/22 in a 1 in 9 twist, stating that is was for subsonic 22LR ammo including Aguila 60gr. ammo. I'm looking for comments--pro or con on this barrel. I rarely shoot anything other than standard or "subsonic" anyway. Are these barrels as accurate as a 1 in 16" when using subsonic ammo?

Sounds a bit strange to me. For target guns you want a twist of 1 in 16 or 17. Virtually all target ammo is subsonic. Not sure why one would want to shoot 60 grain bullets, as all the quality target ammo is 40 grains. See this info from Lilja.

With the 60gr bullet you will need the extra twist to stabilize the bullet. If you shoot that ammo from a standard twist you will get tumbling bullets. That is never good for accuracy.

I agree with avoid all 60 grain .22LR fare. A .22LR was designed for 36 to 40 grain fare. A 1-in-16" rifling twist was deemed proper by all manufacturers concerned. A 1-in-9" twist should stabilize 60 grain fare, but to what advantage? Certainly not high velocity. Cliffy

The advantage is down range energy with near total silence. yes most target ammo is sub sonic and it is almost a completely silent shot when shot through a good suppressor , the trouble is that the energy is alot lower on target if used for hunting (about 85-90lbsK.E.)
Now if you shoot a CCI Stinger though a good suppressor it is still very quiet but their is a loud pop from the bullet making its supersonic signature but you have the added energy if used for hunting (about 200-215lbs K.E.).
BUT
if you shoot a slug that twice a heavy but going a bit slower you get the super quiet of the target stuff and alot of the added energy of the hyper velocity stuff (about 125-130lbs K.E.)

the 60gr SSS ammo was desgined for more energy with less noise. I can shoot it through a custom 18" Encore barrel and a great suppressor and the hammer snapping is the loudest part , I have shot hallf a dozen squirrles at one time withing 20 feet of one another with none of them running off , the bullet impact is actualy WAY louder than the shot

I don't have a 1-9 twist for my 10/22 but i have a 1-8 in my Encore barrel and it works great , the 60gr ammo shootes ok through my CZ also but it will throw one way off with a tumble now and then so I don't rist shooting that ammo through that weapon when it has the can on it , if a bullet isin't stabilized when it leavs it can cause a baffle strike in the suppressor and things get really ugly from their
