1:12' Twist Good for What Range?

I have the opportunity to pick up a rifle with a 1:12' twist barrel chambered in 6mmBR. What distances would this rifle shoot best at with what weight bullets. I was hoping to use at 100, 200, 300, and 600 yards. I doubt 1000 is possible unless their is little wind.

I like the 70 gr Nos BT. The 87 V-max also works but my 6 br seem prefers the 70 nos. 600yd will be no problem. I have hits to 914 yd on prarie dogs with the Nos BT.

Phil: The August 2009 issue of 'Handloader' magazine, page 36, has an extensive article by Charles Petty dealing with a new Savage single shot, 6BR 1-12. Includes a lot of tested loads w/ bullet weights from 58 to 80 gr. Only 'mistake' I found was the dimension for overall loaded length, other than that it seems like a worthwhile article.

Phil,

My first 6BR 12tw was built to shoot 68 gr to 80gr. bullets, and it shoot them very well for targets. For varmints, I shoot 70gr Sierria Blitzkings, and have kills on VA groundhogs past 600yds. For PD it would be as far as you can hit them. Great combo.

I have shot my 6br .272 neck 1:12 in benchrest competition, and faired pretty well in group. I use H4895 with 68 FB Bergers at 3400 fps. Here is a target I shot 2 weeks ago while fireforming new brass.

Each group is a 5 shot group at 100 yards.
