0.015" Clarence from scope to rifle barrel

Just installed my Talley mounts 20 Moa medium height and I have 0.015" Clarence between objective and Barrel. I think I will be all right how about you people.

I shot it 7 times to get 100 yard zero half inch 100 yards 3 of them was in the same hole.
Maybe I just answered my own question?
Would you people feel safe with that little of Clarence?

I can fit 3 one dollar bills in between objective Bell and Barrel

Yea, If it were mine, I would want a bit more clearance. Just me.

The proof of the pudding is in the shooting, but I would want more clearance. About 9x more. I've always thought 1/8" clearance was ideal.

Does your scope have lens covers installed? If not, then you probably won't be able to fit a cover on the front without some modification.

Yeah I always go for an 1/8 of an inch also.

I just don't want to send them back.
And put it back on and re zero.
It has the screw-in lens caps so I am fine there. It's a sightron 36 power fixed power.
It's my 1500 yard and 1 mile rifle

Any idea maybe sticking something in between scope like something I could use to see if Barrel whip is hitting the scope.

I don't know something soft like plumbers putty a thin layer can you look at it with a magnifying glass

A slow motion camera would be cool but I don't have one LOL

Could you use a strip of carbon copy paper around the end of the bell and tape it on the top with painters tape and fire a few times then pull the carbon paper off and look at it? Impression tape like a dentist would use?

Was looking at that size gap. Actually should be OK. If not - take the scope off and file a flat on the barrel right there. Then sell the filed bits right here.

I believe I saw a high speed video of how much a scope flexes and it was quite a bit. Can’t tell you where or when I saw it, though. Might try searching the web for such a video. I think you need more than .015.

put plasti-gauge under scope fire 3 rounds - measure plasti -gauge then you know, can be found at any automotive store napa ect .

Definitely not enough clearance. As I mentioned above, we took slow motion video of my rifle being shot off of the bench, the barrel whip was unreal! After removing the scope you could see where the scope bell had com in contact with the barrel! There was definitely more than that much clearance....

It's a 1 inch bull barrel. Caliber 6.5 x 284 Norma shooting 153.5 Berger LRHT @ 2917 M.V

Is there a reason why you want to have the scope so close to the barrel? I can think of several reasons why I don't want to do that and not a single good reason why I would want that on a rifle used for 1500yards to 1 mile, with a 36X scope.

I didn’t want it to be that close just turned out to be that way since it is a bull barrel.

And it does help being closer to the center of the Bore in case the rifle is Canted a little bit. But there is a bubble level installed on my chassis.

It shoots so good at 100 yards I am not going to mess with it.It literally shoots in one hole. I have not shot it any further. Waiting till March then I will test at 400.
