    Just this morning I tested a .308 with 160 grain Hornady FTXs (30-30 bullet) loaded at 30-30 velocity . Pretty much same POI from 50-100 yards .

    For deer you may find the 25 yard zero still works just fine at 100 . I zero some of my deer rifles at 40 yards and they are on at 100 yards also . Not exactly the same POI but very close . Like you stated there are many variables , including how well the youngsters can shoot the difference from...

    Funny you mention those matches, that is another thing I have "hoarded" . Unless I live another 30 years I won't need them for primers, I hoard primers also . A smart squirrel always gathers his nuts before winter .

    I shoot from my house, I have to shut the door to the shooting room to let the cold air in to equalize some . Mirage can be impossible when it's 20-30 below . POI changes also when only a foot of the barrel is out in the cold for long .
