  1. Freedom Benchrest allow 40lb metal Rear Rest?

How did they do in the match? Did they win anything?
  2. Freedom Benchrest allow 40lb metal Rear Rest?

Did they win? How did these behemoths do compared to normal bag guns? I have yet to see conclusive proof that these things can outshoot a bag gun regularly, but we will find out now that guys are trying it. Another thought: most rear bags weigh a considerable amount and don’t move if you...
  3. My 20 Vartarg custom

Heavy gun at the CRC 600 yard match today. 3.783" and 175 agg netted me second place. The winning agg of the day was a 6 BRA with 2.955"
  4. My 20 Vartarg custom

Light gun at the CRC 600 yard match today. Tricky wind meant that this 3.503" and 182 agg netted me second place across the board.
  5. 1-8 twist for 55 grain .20 cal Bergers?

Info like this reminds me how hot I am actually running my 20 Vartarg. The Lapua brass with a closely matched chamber and dies has held up great. My oldest set of brass has 10 reloads now. When I was pushing up to 3250fps with 20gns of Benchmark, that was noticeably hard on the brass. I thought...
  6. 1-8 twist for 55 grain .20 cal Bergers?

Grafs orders special runs of them. They were discontinued. Edit: https://www.grafs.com/catalog/product/productId/797?srsltid=AfmBOoqhQr5pBLT7R9NbxP4qcnvQuvwGfG1AYc9survB_RxhwfKAMwT0
  7. 1-8 twist for 55 grain .20 cal Bergers?

I’m surprised! My vartarg uses 17gns of H4198 and my 22 PPC uses 28gns of Varget.
  8. 1-8 twist for 55 grain .20 cal Bergers?

How long a barrel? I would be shocked if you didn’t make it to 3300. My 20 Vartarg has a 26” barrel and goes 3150fps without damaging the brass. Your PPC will have about twice the capacity.
  9. My 20 Vartarg custom

I will report back. I will have 8 five shots targets to give a solid evaluation of it in CRC’s mercurial wind.
  10. "0" Group at 1000 yards

I know a couple guys who quit when their record-setting targets were DQed. When I score, shooter always gets the benefit of the doubt. This is a gentlemanly sport. There’s no massive prize pot or money on the line beyond the entry fees, and arguably even if there was - this is a game we’re...
  11. "0" Group at 1000 yards

Unfortunately, guys occasionally only shoot 4 or they shoot 6 because they lost count.
  12. "0" Group at 1000 yards

At 1000, with live pits, the person pulling the target counts the shots. If there is a tiny little group and the puller says there where 5 in the berm, then there is no question. These rifles don't put 4 into an inch and throw one 24” off the target without the puller noticing. At 600, getting...
  13. My 20 Vartarg custom

I have several 1.25-1.75” groups with it at 600, but yes, it’s getting exponentially harder to keep them all together and 500 to 600 is a big step up. I wouldn’t kid anyone and say it’s as easy as even my 22 PPC at 600, but the raw accuracy is just fantastic and makes it feel predictable.
  14. Shooting Associations -- Freedom, IBS, NBRSA, UBR,++

Yes, just as you said: 4 targets each, 5 shots per target, on shotmarkers, at both yardages, in one day. We start at 8 and end 3-4ish. If you shoot every class, you need 120 record shots plus sighters - it is A LOT of shooting! Our attendance has increased and is more consistent than in the...
  15. Shooting Associations -- Freedom, IBS, NBRSA, UBR,++

I have only been competing since 2017 in LR benchrest (600 and 1000) at CRC, and have been the statistician for the club since 2019 (I think), so my view is perhaps limited but I know of 2 distinct fractures in this time. The first is when 1000yd was moving from a shoot-off to an aggregate...
  16. My 20 Vartarg custom

Not yet. I have an 8lber of H4198 that is taking a while to use up, haha!
  17. My 20 Vartarg custom

I have been shooting a 222 on this platform, but got an itch to thread the little 20 Vartarg back on and take it out again after a year and a half hiatus. It has 2300 rounds down it now and here's what it did today in a wind 7mph gusting to 15mph day at 80 degrees: Ladder, checking my old...
  18. Pillar Bedding Time/Cost?

I’m an amateur and do my own stocks and bedding. The prep before ever mixing epoxy on a stock that is inleted and ready is about five hours: making and fitting the pillars, cleaning everything, putting release on the action if it isn’t a glue in, claying where I need to, supporting the barrel...
  19. 22 PPC and 222 for 1000yd BR

I'm still shooting both. The 22 PPC is excellent and I will be getting another barrel done. For the 222, I'm mostly done with managing the 378 bolt face in general. It just pressures out quickly, and likes to leak around the primers when it does. I have a PPC/BR bolt for that rifle on order from...
  20. Starline 223 brass

Not exactly what you're asking for Clay, but their 222 stuff has been good and I imagine a lot of the tooling is the same: 0.0124 up to 0.0128 across my whole batch from 2024, but consistent to within .0002" on any one piece. Excellent, holds pressure just as well as the Lapua and Norma I...
