  1. Alpha Munitions 6 PPC Brass

My first thought is that you needed a 0.0005 smaller turning mandrel, or a 0.0005 larger expanding mandrel for the brass. It sounds like a huge frustration; my condolences!
  2. Alpha Munitions 6 PPC Brass

I have turned the necks down on 15 cases and then sized them to 22 PPC with no problems. Everything measures great and when my current barrel gets too tired for BR work, I will use it to fireform and test the Alpha brass against my Norma 22 PPC.
  3. At a loss...NO MORE!

To be fair, you could still be crazy… but your hunch about the scope was right. Hahaha. Did you say you’re looking at the Nightforce Comp?
  4. I'm at a loss

Do you have a 100yd range to go check it at? Anytime something odd happens, I double check at 100. Do a box test if you think your scope or rifle is bad.
  5. 6 Grendel

I prefer to neck down for the simple reason that I can size the case with a “false shoulder” to fit my chamber and fireform tight without any unnecessary stretching. If you neck up, you can’t set a tight fit and the shoulder is wherever it ended up when the case was made.
  6. Building A ELR Rifle

I agree that there’s got to be something wrong with it to shoot that large. 50 rounds in something that big is a lot. 5000 grains of powder is like shooting 150 or so from your 30 BR (in powder and bullet weight, haha)! I appreciate you sharing your progress and I look forward to hearing more!
  7. Relationship between headspace and chasing the lands?

No, i agree. The extractor holds it all the way into the chamber, and the ejector pushes it against the extractor, but I think there is more than 0.004” of slop between the case and the bolt face when it is under the extractor, so that when you close the bolt, the chamber shoulder pushes the...
  8. Relationship between headspace and chasing the lands?

I’m pretty sure most rifles have more than a few thousandths of clearance on the extractor given the potential rim thickness variations that are possible. This would mean that the ejector would push the brass shoulder tight into the chamber (assuming the bullet is seated out of the lands and...
  9. Relationship between headspace and chasing the lands?

Depends how you seat your bullets. I have disks under my round in wilson inline seaters so the seater rides on the shoulder and doesn’t sit on the arbor press at all to provide a consistent bullet to shoulder distance. If you seat more traditionally, then the bullet to base of case is the...
  10. Richards Microfit, pictures?

Do you recall what Richards “grade” that one was?
  11. Richards Microfit, pictures?

What Richards “grade” was that one? It has very nice figure
  12. Case taper advice 25x47 improved

Just to reply to the OP’s question: I wouldn’t reduce the taper or sizing and extracting cases will get clicky, if you care about smoothness of your rifle action and sizing dies. This isn’t a 30-06, there is very little to be gained and a lot to be lost by reducing the taper further. I would...
  13. Case taper advice 25x47 improved

Not to derail this thread too far, but I have a 222 for 1000yd BR that shoots 90gn bullets at 2680fps. It just has some wildness about it that I can’t get rid of. The 22 PPC and 22 BR downloaded to the same speed don’t have the same penchant for fliers that the little 222 does. I am still...
  14. Case taper advice 25x47 improved

I had some plans to make a 22BR -.100 or so when 220 Lapua dried up the last few years. I tried the operation with my 22BR die and a 6mm Creedmoor case creating a 22 Creedmoor - 0.100. I was not pleased with the neck quality and that killed that idea for me. I ended up getting a PPC bolt and...
  15. Case taper advice 25x47 improved

The most prominent example that comes to mind is the 20 Vartarg pushing the shoulder down on a 221 fireball from 23 degrees to 30. The biggest downside I know of is that you push thicker, creased shoulder brass into the neck creating a donut. Even when expanded with a mandrel and turned, bullet...
  16. What’s the Difference Between a Shouldered Pre-Fit and a Barrel Nut Pre-Fit for a Savage?

I like shouldered barrels for the simple reason that I thread it on, torque it, done. No fussing with gauges or likely setting the headspace slightly differently every time I swap the barrels (I swap multiple barrels between two rifles all the time depending on what I want to shoot).
  17. Question about using hash marks for hold off.

With both my Sightron and my GE, if I bottom the elevation adjustment out, I have to adjust my head some to get a full sight picture again. It is subtle but definitely there. So at the adjustment extreme, I think parallax is impacted. More in the middle of the range, I am not so sure there is a...
  18. 22 BR for mid range dogs what twist rate???

No problem at all for me, but I’m at 5000ft and can shoot 90gn bullets out of my 8T just fine out to 1000yds.
  19. Shooting Associations -- Freedom, IBS, NBRSA, UBR,++

As an example, the colorado rifle club only has about 10 shooters per match. Not all 10 shoot every class, so in LG for example, there may only be 6 shooters. Pretty hard to cut that into smaller slices. Even if we triple the numbers (18 shooters per class), and say we have novice, intermediate...
  20. Shooting Associations -- Freedom, IBS, NBRSA, UBR,++

Just curious what a handicap would look like? How does that even work on a nuts and bolts level for this kind of activity? I’m not trying to be confrontational here; I honestly don’t even understand how it really works in golf either.
