  1. Yeti

It would make it cheaper to ship - smaller box to put the pieces in.
  2. Yeti

Thinking of just boxing one up and shipping it back to them. After I put a rather permanent hole through it.
  3. Anyone loaded for a 256 Newton?

FJIM, I've only dry-fired it so far but that trigger, when set, is really a hair trigger. I need to get a pull gauge on it to see just how light it is. Without the trigger being set I'm guessing it's at a crisp 3 lbs pull.
  4. Anyone loaded for a 256 Newton?

Thanks for the pic, thekriebles. I'm planning on making mine from 270 brass as I have 2 25-06's in the stable. Here's a more exact source of info on the rifles. DWM and Sauer made the actions. Post-war, I think it was Sauer. http://www.newtonrifles.com/newton-models.html
  5. Anyone loaded for a 256 Newton?

Flouncer - similar to, but, not the same. Within 100 fps with similar loadings is what I've read. But, enough difference to NOT be able to use 6.5-06 load information. Different shape and length case. Pretty much a wildcat operation now unless Jamison brass comes out with some. Tommie - haven't...
  6. Anyone loaded for a 256 Newton?

Thank you, Barlow. Anyone else? I know it's a rare bird but I'm interested to see how the 'segmented' rifling shoots.
  7. Anyone loaded for a 256 Newton?

Got the rifle, still need to make the brass from .270 or .25-06. Most likely .270 since I have two 25-06's and don't want to risk mis-loading.
  8. Anyone loaded for a 256 Newton?

Just got an original Newton 1st model rifle in 256 Newton. I know I'll more than likely have to form brass but I do want to shoot it. Anyone ever work up loads for one? I've searched the interweb and found some loads but most are fairly old. With the more modern powders we have and the changes...
  9. Uncharted waters

Just a couple of options, though I vote for selling them one at a time: 1. Donate some to the NRA Foundation. It's a 501c3 and you could get some tax credit from it. Not to mention helping to support the next generation of shooters. 2. If you want to get rid of 'some' of them at one time, check...
  10. UPS Stores

Actually, I had a Swarovski shipped back to the factory. It arrived nearly folded in half. Swarovski emailed and called me and told me what happened. They filed the claim for it in my name and sent me a new, replacement scope and the check in return.
  11. UPS Stores

I've shipped quite a bit through UPS stores. But, through creative descriptions, lie LA50Shooter, I have shipped: shotgun barrels = pipe barreled actions= sealed pipe scopes=optical devices ammo=lead and brass bullets= lead and copper pieces cases =brass containers and probably other items I've...
  12. Opinion on hearing protection

I use to compete in sporting clays and muffs don't do well with that. I have a couple of sets of the injection-molded plugs that work very well for either shotgun or rifle. I do notice when someone is shooting a rifle with a muzzle brake that they aren't the best. I'll double down and put muffs...
  13. Are Howa's factory test fired? Heavy copper fouling before I fired it.

I would imagine that all manufacturers test-fire a rifle before it goes out the door. I know Sako/Tikka does a two-step testing - proof loads that are 2x maximum pressure and then fired for accuracy guarantee. Watched them do it on a tour one time in 2002.
  14. 2x fired brass chambers but with difficult extraction and marks near shoulder

I neck size after full length sizing. In many of my rifles it gives better more concentric loads. It does add another step to the process though.
  15. Keeping old club members shooting

Had a mentor in reloading and shooting when I was younger. By the time I was in college he had started giving away guns and the like. I'm guessing he was in his 80's. He said he couldn't shoot the heavy kickers and even his 243 was too much to shoot more than a couple of shots. I got a friend...
  16. Lets talk Shotguns

All of the benelli shotguns are 'recoil' shotguns, somewhat similar to the old Browning A5. It seems to me you're a bit recoil sensitive on the benelli's. I'm also guessing that the stock doesn't fit as well as your old Charles Daly did. Benelli's do come with some different shims to allow you...
  17. Recommendations for Custom Reloading

Dallas Reloads is who I've used in the past. www.dallasreloads.com
  18. What's a sensible frequency of annealing .308 cases?

I'm not a competitive shooter, just a person that enjoys shooting as often as I can. Mostly 'short' range - 100-200 yards, but, some out to distances up to 1000. I don't anneal to improve accuracy necessarily, I anneal because I'm cheap and don't want to have to purchase more brass when the...
  19. what CALIBER do you shoot 500+ yards?

    223, 243, 25-06, 6.5x55, 308, 264 WM and soon, 256 Newton to 600 Past that, mainly the 264 and the 308. 142's in the 264 and 155's and 168's in the 308
  20. salvaging powder

Save it if you're still on the same bottle of RL33. Even then, mixing it in with a different lot #, it would be doubtful if it hurt anything as long as it isn't clumped or showing signs of degradation. Any sign that it's degraded at all, put it in a cup or bowl and scatter on the yard. It makes...
