  1. It was bound to happen

Some people's children!!! Years ago I partnered up with a software company, writing a color management book specifically for their software. No small task, 1.44 million options distilled down to 12 choices for professional users and 3 for general users. The software company sold the books...
  2. McGowen Rifle bbls

Herein lies the problem with custom barrels. If you shoot a wide range of bullet weights you have to make a compromise. When I had McGowen build my rifle I sent 3 dummy rounds loaded with the heaviest weight I would use with the action to use when cutting the chamber.
  3. AR barrel bedding

Not being a builder of rifles, I can only speak from experience from shooting. My Colt A2 in 5.56 shoots 1" average at 100 yards with hand loads. My Aero Precision M4E in 6 ARC shoots an average of 1/2" at 100 yards with 105 Hornady match. I've seen AR 15's in 6 ARC that cost more than twice...
  4. McGowen Rifle bbls

Many years ago, I had McGowen build me a rifle, a 358 Norm Magnum on a 03 Remington action for hunting, I believe I delt with Harry. I've never seen any other 358 Norma shoot better. I've had some health issues, and the rifle sat as a safe queen for a very long time, I pulled it out checked...
  5. Straight-wall scope question - 350 Legend

In my opinion practice and range to the target estimation is far more important that any difference in scope type. When utilizing short ranges and ballistically limited cartridgesespecially with medium sized game I find practice to be the deciding factor. I have only 3 straight walled...
  6. I did a little math and graphics, this is what I came up with for the SIG Tango BDC 9 and 10

I have gotten hold of my son and his 1 x 8 has 3 triangles left and right of the horseshoe. I'll shoot and map the scopes and redraw my drawings. Videos show the same for the 1 x 6 but I have no access to one.
  7. I did a little math and graphics, and I wanted to alert those who may be interested

I have gotten hold of my son and his 1 x 8 Sig Tango has 3 triangles left and right of the aim point and horseshoe so when we shoot these scopes to map the reticle I'll need to redraw my drawing. I don't have access to a 1 x 6 and videos show 3 triangles like the 1 x 8 but cannot test.
  8. Photographers here -- What are you shooting at?

This is the only spoiled child I have!
  9. 450 Bushmaster - Ruger American Ranch or Gunsite Scout

  10. 450 Bushmaster - Ruger American Ranch or Gunsite Scout

I only seek enlightenment. Why the 450 Bushmaster?
  11. Photographers here -- What are you shooting at?

    My wife likes mature grasses!
  12. I did a little math and graphics, and I wanted to alert those who may be interested

    Here is the updated stuff including the 1 x 6 BDC, 1 x 8 and 1 x 10 BDC
  13. Straight-wall scope question - 350 Legend

Hold over marks mean very little unless you calibrate them yourself. If you shoot factory buy several boxes of your favorite ammunition and shoot 3 shots at 3 different measured distances at the same aim point of a target and measure the distance from the aim point to the center of the group...
  14. I did a little math and graphics, this is what I came up with for the SIG Tango BDC 9 and 10

Here is an update, I have mapped the BDC 6, 8 and 10 reticles with using the center horseshoe for windage and I have superimposed those reticles on a silhouette target
  15. I did a little math and graphics, this is what I came up with for the SIG Tango BDC 9 and 10

I did a little math and graphics, and I wanted to alert those who may be interested, I'll be posting the graphics and the discussion in the scopes area as I bought 2 Sig Sauer Tango MSR LPVO scopes, 1 in 1 x 8 and the other in 1 x 10. There seems to be very little documentation on the reticle...
  16. I did a little math and graphics, and I wanted to alert those who may be interested

This is how far I have gotten, this is the Sig Tango 1 x 8 and the 1 x 10. I'll post this in the scope area too and work on the 1 x 6 soon.

  18. A funny story about barrel runout.

This thread is interesting, it has made me feel very lucky. I carry a rifle, and I shoot it, it sits in a cabinet until I need it, I pull it out check the bore for blockage run a dry patch and shoot it. The bullet goes where I intended, I'm happy. I don't worry about all this stuff I have a...
  19. Hot barrel - what temp to stop shooting rounds

In my opinion you rate of fire is as much as I would do as a maximum, you're maximizing your fire in my opinion if you want maximum barrel life. A temperature sticker is a waste of effort at your rate of fire. Worry about rate of fire more than temperature. The problems with barrel...
