  1. Your thoughts on Alliant Power Pistol powder.......................................

Good powder. I use a little faster powder in 9MM and save the Power Pistol for 357 Sig and 40 S&W
  2. Seating bullets into the rifling

I get mixed results. For example, on my 243 the bullet always come out with the tool and the results are consistent, on some other rifles, the bullets must be pushed out and results vary enough that I have to average several readings.

One feature about Cabela's that is attractive if you have one close is their free shipping to the store. They will ship powder to the closest store to you saving you shipping and hazmat fees.

  7. Using primers pre-seated primers…

Watch for missing anvils. No anvil, no bang.
  8. HOW GOOD IS STARLINE BRASS ?

I ordered some pulled 243 win brass from Rocky Mountain Reloading and just received it yesterday. It was advertised as Winchester, but turns out that only 85 of the 250 ordered (268 delivered) were winchester. The rest are Starline. The ES of the weight is 1/3 of the Winchester. The ave...
  9. Thanks to the Older Members, Word of Wisdom for the Newbies

Am I a conspiracy theorist for thinking that our government might get involved in fixing ammo prices for civilians as a form of gun control? They could offer a lucrative military contract in exchange for making civilian prices high. I believe they could and would fix the prices of ammo just as...
  10. Thanks to the Older Members, Word of Wisdom for the Newbies

I, for one. do not believe that prices will go down. I am 72 years old and worked hard all my life so that I could enjoy retirement. I have a woodlot that I put a lot of expense and effort into building a 600 yd range. I have a little money, but not much time. I will waste my money rather...
  11. Please clarify precision powder dispensing.

LOL good question. Perhaps those that have very sensitive scales cut the last granule to get their desired weight. Edit to add: When I bought my scale, an Ohaus 1010, fifty some years ago, what sold me on it was a demonstration the shop own gave. He weighed a scrap of paper, then marked on the...
  12. 243 Winchester powder advice.

Are W760 and H414 the same or just similar? I have heard it said many times that they are the same, but also have seen both listed in load tables with slightly different loads for the same cal/bullet. Edit to add: As an example see Lyman's 50th edition 7mm-08 139gn loads.
  13. Why start with .015 off?

Question for those that start load development at touch or jam: How far below max powder charge do you use as a starting point?
  14. Who doesnt anneal?

Perhaps if you tried it for a while you would answer your own question. On the other hand, if you are happy with what you are doing stick with it.

  16. Sierra 168 tipped vs HP vs 169 HP

Thanks for all the replies. I am limited to 600 yds, so it seems that any of the 3 should work equally well for me.
  17. Sierra 168 tipped vs HP vs 169 HP

Yes, I mean MatchKing. Sierra makes two open tipped (Hollow Point) versions, #2200 is 168 grains and #2269 is 169 grains. Those are the bullets I refer to.
  18. Sierra 168 tipped vs HP vs 169 HP

These 3 bullets seem very close in design. Does one have any advantage over the other two?
  19. Powder substitution

I mainly load for 308 Win & 6.5 Creedmoor. I also load and shoot 223 Rem, 22-250, 243 & 7mm-08. My go to powders have been IMR 4895 for 308 and H4350 for 6.5. I also have rl16, Varget, IMR 4064, and H335. My shooting is informal benchrest, no competition, out to 600 yds. Given the...
  20. Misfire on new rifle

Would a primer that was not fully seated partially ignite? I can see not igniting, but it seems that if the primer mixture was good the result of a partially seated primer would be go or no go, not something in between. That being said, I agree that primers should be fully seated.
