EC TUNER

Link

Silver $$ Contributor
I had my smith do a 6BR barrel for me. When I got it back it had an EC tuner on it. I shot it last year with my favorite load and it shot ok but not great. The first time I shot it this year it was 50 degrees out and it shot a 5 shot group .168''. at 100 with my best load. We went to the range a few days later and the weather had warmed up to 72 degrees The first group it shot was like 1/2 inch I figured maybe I could compensate for it with my tuner. No such luck. I tune the Tuner to number 1 #2 #3 #4 and number 5 all with half inch groups. Then ran out of loaded rounds. The next time I go to the range I'm wondering if I should turn the tuner in bigger increments being it has a smaller diameter than most. I have gone to the EC Tuner videos and can't find a tuner that looks exactly like mine. I have checked all torques. What are you thinking thanks?

I think with that light tuner and also down on barrel and not extending out- probably should move about 5 numbers at the time. Is that EC or EC2 tuner? Erik says 5 at the time I believe.
It is a EC v2s. If I turn it 5 numbers at a time that's 1/2 revolution. I guess I could try that. It's just money and time lol.. If someone uses one hopefully they will chime in!

Has anyone had luck with this specific tuner?

I have the V2 tuners (I believe yours is also) on all of my competition rifles. When testing or working up a load I do a complete load work up with it on “0”and the tuner flush with the end of the barrel. I do powder test and then a seating depth test with it on “0”. For me, I don’t use the tuner to “tune” the rifle, only to fine tune it after I’ve done a complete, thorough load development.

After that then I do a tuner test. I always move the tuner towards the receiver, up in numbers, and I do it in increments of ten to reduce shots fired. You’ll be able to see the shots trending in and out of tune. I then fine tune in smaller numbers in between 2 groups that’s trending well. I also shoot 2 shot groups to begin with and more shots when fine tuning.

I am absolutely confident and convinced by my own testing, that it makes a huge difference. I shot a match yesterday doing a tuner test backwards during the match. Meaning I started with the tuner screwed in and worked back to zero on the final 10 shots. I’ll post my targets in consecutive order and you can see how it got worse after every ten shots. That’s just my experience. But I do it in a little larger numbers and then fine tune with smaller increments to reduce the rounds fired, cost of components and barrel wear. I’m not the authority on tuners by any means. But I have found it to be a viable tool to make my rifles more competitive. Whether or not the way I do it is right or not my process works for me.
Blessings.
Dwayne

With the V2 E C tuner direct mount (no adapter) for best results and quickest method to find tune after the load development is complete start at zero with tuner flush at muzzle on a pre-determined mark and move towards the action 5 marks per interval to rough it in with 2 shot gps. Then re-check in the areas showing tightest 2 shots watching for best POI on the target as well. (POI should be close to a straight line moving from across group to group) Fine tune both sides of that area with 1 increment moves with 3 or 5 shot groups. There will be more than one window of tune as the tuner is turned inward but it will require more than one rotation to see it with the direct mounted tuner without an adapter that moves the tuner out away from the muzzle.

EDIT: Erik has stated in some cases he has completely skipped seat depth test and found great groups with adjusting the tuner only with seat depth at a pre-determined spot.
