What do I have here?

I bought these used 223 Rem headspace gauges years ago for a Savage re barrel project but ended up never using them. I didn’t even open the packaging until recently because now I need them for something else. These gauges don’t have a rim for the extractor. I can’t find anything similar looking at pictures online. What are they for? Thank you.

I have several like that. No rim means no problem with extractor interference. And that probably includes the ejector. Used in industry.

Thank you for the reply. Interestingly, I tried the gauges out in 3 factory original .223 bolt rifles I’ve been shooting for years. All three closed on the no-go.

What difference do you measure on the 3 gauges?

What difference do you measure on the 3 gauges and your fired brass?

What difference do you measure between the fired brass on your 3 factory original rifles?

Excessive headspace or the gauge is out of calibration.

I would think these are govt contract/surplus gauges and the reason there are 3 is because one is a field or max headspace gauge.

To have a full set a 308/7.62 Nato it can be as many as 8 gauges. I know these are 223.

Edit:

It's actually around 10 or more, I made this list of headspace gauges I have for 7.62 Nato/308 Win 15 years ago. I'm sure there are the same ones available for 5.56/223

It seems different headspace mfg use different dimensions for whatever reason.

Are they 223 Remington or 556 Nato? Does have dimensions on the gage?
