Cooper Mod. 38 17FB???????

Does anyone know what caused Cooper (the real Cooper) to be sold to "THOSE" guys? I always use the term "THOSE guys" since I once saw our mayor (at our Home Days) talking about the Codgers in the Polka band finishing their set. He said "we'll start getting a crowd now that THOSE guys are done". I heard his voice falter and stumble when he got far enough into the comment that he could not just stop or turn the comment around. It was sort of like he started thinking "oh crap, wtf did I just say?" lol

My gunsmith/friend passed away in Feb. Today at my gunclub we had an "Estate Sale" with all his guns and reloading. It took 5 trucks to get all of it to the club. In all that "Stuff" were two mint Coopers, a Model 22 in 22-250 and a Model 21 in 22 PPC. Well the 22 PPC is in my possession now along with a set of dies and I paid a lot less than what the pawn shop was asking and its in VGC! Funny how I get around fine rifles and my logical thinking goes out the window along with my $$$$.
I think most of us saw the pictures of the modified one
Can we see the pictures of the PPC

Well Danny, the reason is usually money, but I don't know the actual reason why Cooper of Montana sold out to "those other guys". :( NHC now does not make what put Cooper rifles on the map, their rifle lineup appears to be uber high priced hunting rifles with a nod towards tactical....none of which attracts us who grew to appreciate nice walnut, small single shot actions with quality stainless barrels in interesting small calibers.

I talked with the NHC marketing director some months ago, and he assured me that "those other" rifles from the MT outfit would again be available. So far though I've not seen anything encouraging in that regard.

Hopefully someone here with more industry knowledge can answer your question. The Cooper Montana built rifles are now becoming harder to find at reasonable prices. Mine are here to stay as long as I'm still breathing.

My cellphone doesn't take the best pictures. The Bushnell is just setting on there for now. I'd like a little taller set of rings.

I'm finding out that 22PPC brass just isn't everywhere either.

I may have a bag of Norma 22 PPC. If you are interested send me a PM to remind me to look tomorrow afternoon. Beautiful rifle.

I went back by the pawn shop today and the 17FB is still there. I'm sure he took it to Wanamaker and pretty sure the Cooper went with him. If he couldn't sell it there, you'd think that might give a glue as to being to high. Even though I know him and he's a member of my gunclub, he's hard to deal with. I have enough in my rat hole to buy the rifle, and if he would work with me I might buy it, but I hate to pay his price and go in the hole walking out the door. On a flip side, I have a Sako Vixen that I could send to someone and have turned it into a Fireball for less money.

I found this one in a pawn shop but concerned about the value. It looks like it hasn't been fired a lot but it isn't mint. Bolt face and barrel looks good but I have questions about the stock. It has a small pic rail on the front and a QD release drilled and glued into the butt stock. Both look out of place to me in a walnut stocked Cooper and IMO has hurt the value. The store owner told me $2300 out the door. I know that walnut and stainless Coopers are a thing of the past, but is $2300 a fair price? Even with the holes in the stock??? Thanks!
Sounds like Bubba went to work, personally i'd pass ,a decent chunk of change for that flaw,no way.
