What does a $70 decapper do that the $30 RCBS doesn't do?

1. Self centers
2. A spring kicks out primers stuck in anvil that tend to pull back and partially re-seat
3. Screw in pin for ease of replacement.....not yet
4. 65 Rockwell pins and just overall die high quality.
5. If you decap in auto drive and return to find a broken pin, you have 2 problems....find the pin and a bunch of brass to redo.

Comparable to a Model T and current model cars. A Model T may get you coast to coast but the current model will get you there in less time with fewer repairs.

That's a lot of features. Well engineered piece. I suppose if you have experienced any of those problems, that would be a good solution.

I use the lee universal decapper from time to time. Works fine.

But you do have to grind the recapping rod tip down to use on Lapua SRP brass.

I have been using a Lee Universal decapping die for over 30 years. I've bent 1 pin on military crimped brass after punching out 1000's of crimped primers. When I started shooting 6br I bought a 2nd Lee Universal decapping die and turned the pin diameter down. They work great for however many of rounds I reload a year, especially pdogs. I do however have 2 extra pins just incase and when I bend one. Still decapping crimped. 223 brass.

I have a Lyman for 22 cal and up and a Lee set up with a small rod for 17/20 cal.
I bought a Redding 2 die with 17/20 pin included, but sent it back. The large die was missing the pin and the small 17/20 rod was bent. The 17/20 rod is a poor design. Surprising as I have a lot of Redding stuff that is top drawer.

Whatever you do, DO NOT get the LEE. I bought one a few weeks ago, decapped 100 rounds of 6 BRA and it already bent the pin. Which is whatever I guess. Get what you pay for in life. But the really crappy part is that when I emailed LEE, I could not believe their response. They told me it's very common for them to break and they'd sell me new pins, or the alternative would be to DRILL out my Lapua cases to accept a larger pin! I said wow, no warranty on something less than a month old that decapped 100 cases? NOPE. And you recomend I drill out my Lapua cases? Unbelievable. I'll NEVER buy anything LEE or recomend them to anyone for anything. How about you just make a better product and or stand behind it...

The Lee decapping pin is larger than the flash hole in Lapua 6BR brass. You have enlarged the flash hole on all of the cases you've run through that die.

I've used the same Lee decapping die for over twenty-five years. I've never broken or bent the pin and I've never used it on Lapua small flash hole brass. It has, however, deprimed thousands and thousands of crimped-in Lake City primers, both large and small. I consider this level of performance to be indicative of a quality product. I have a spare in reserve, but I don't think I'll live long enough to wear the first one out.

Ya, but the one I bought was the undersize decap pin specifically for lapua small flash holes. So I'm not sure that's the issue. The pin fit through the holes just fine. And I don't tumble my brass so nothing was in the way or blocking it. Not sure how it got bent, but none the less it did happen.

When j get home, I'll take a picture of the pin and the primer hole, and it clearly has enough clearance.

An essential tool if you, as you should be, measuring the fired case with a bump gauge for F/L sizing.

I use the standard RCBS Decapping Die and it works fine, never had an issue with it. It's not expensive and one the most used and essential reloading tools that I have.

So my lee undersize pin measure .056" As you can see the pin comes through freely. 6 BR Lapua brass flash holes measure .059"

So not sure how it got bent in less than 100 rounds, but it did. I was taking my time and going nice easy and slow. I noticed a couple were a little harder to pop out for whatever reason, but it was enough to bend the pin already. Going to just straighten the pin for now until I find and figure out something else that will work and hold up. Far as I'm concerned, this decapper is a POS and their customer service isn't any better at that point. Who drills out their Lapua 6 BR flash holes?? That's about the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

Is fifty bucks for a good tool really going to hurt anybody? Sure a lot of people here that won’t shoot anything but yellow box bullets or better.
