Leather cross draw

I'm looking for a good quality right hand draw, OWB leather cross-draw holster for a Kahr P9 & P45. (Horsehide ONLY, natural color, no dye) I love Ryan Grizzle Gun Leather but don't want to wait almost 6 months for it. Same with Milt Sparks and some of the other high-end custom leather holster makers. Craft doesn't have what I want. Open for suggestions!

Simply Rugged. I have one for my 6" S&W 686 and one for my Springfield 1911. Very happy with both of them.. Looks like they make holsters for the Kahr:

I appreciate the reply, but they don't make holsters out of Horsehide. I'll change my thread to Horsehide only.

Thanks!

I've tried to buy a horse hide belt, and horse hide holsters. I love horse hide, especially in high humidity areas, and I love the fact that it is thin compared to cow leather. Both the belt maker and different holster makers say that finding horse hide that meets their quality standards in nigh on to impossible. So, if you really want someone to make you a quality horse hide holster or two, you might want to get in line and wait.

I do have two hybrid holsters that have horsehide backing. One from a quality maker and it is awesome - love it. It is supple and has formed to match my body. The other is from a volume guy and it looks good, but the tanning process used for it makes it stiff and uncomfortable, so I don't use it much.

6 months will be over before you know it!

I spoke with a couple custom makers who said this exact same thing about the quality of the horsehides.

Milt Sparks uses horsehide on the bodyside, but his wait time is longer than R. Grizzle. Matt Del Fatti's lead time is well over a year. I think that I'll just get in line.

Thanks!

I make all my leather sheaths for knifes and have thought about making a holster and it's the same concept. It's really not hard with some basic skills. if you get tired of waiting. There are plenty of how to make them posts online. Just a thought. The leather is easy to buy. Just need glue and thread and a steady hand cutting and drilling the holes. I use a drill press. and plenty of clamps. wrap your pistol in plastic and get the leather wet and mold it to fit. Unless you have better things to do, which I guess most people do!

I think getting in line, like you mentioned, is a good choice and worth the wait. Knotwild gave good advice. Good leather is worth the wait.

I’m a fan of Milt Sparks, the wait keeps getting longer but I’m always happy when it arrives.

Sounds like you have good taste.

Milt's shop is about a 15 minute drive from my house. Before Jim Wall retired we used to shoot IPSC locally.
Ask him about Elephant hide.

I don't want a fancy, high dollar "bling-bling" holster. I want horsehide for its tight grain structure, abrasion resistance and water repel properties. Exotic leathers are great for showing off at BBQ's, but they just ain't what I want or need.

Gman -

Howdy !

You might check w/ Ken Null in Resaka, Ga…. if he does work w/ horse hide.

He made me a great OWB ultra-hi ride holster w/ fwd muzzle rake; that I wear
strong side. The holster would effectively be a Rt hand “ cross draw “, if worn that way.
Ken’s lead time was a lot less than 1 yr. Fit, matériels quality + workmanship were AAA.

Here’s an example pic ( albeit, for an “N” frame S &W )…

With regards,
