I’ve shot the 10mm for almost 35 years. Started with the S&W 1006 that I still have. Just got back from checking on my property where I carried one of my Glock G40s. I’ll be in grizzly country again this summer and I’ll have a 10mm on me and probably an ugly ole Glock that I don’t worry about getting scratched.

Never heard of a 10mm FBI light load. I think the load was a 180 grain traveling at 1200+ fps. Big medicine but it turned out to be too big for the FBI and pushed them to the 40 (aka the short and weak) so the lawyers and accountants of the FBI would not be as intimidated. At least that is the story that has been reported in the past. Never really heard what the field personal of the FBI thought about it but given how quickly everyone adopted the 40 they may have been ok with it. The 40 can be snappy as well.

Underwood ammo sells the 180's as hot as 1300 fps. I load the mag of my Glock 40 with Underwood's 200 grain loads running at 1250 fps. Big big medicine for bear country. If you can get your gun out fast enough that is. If not they'll find my Glock 40 in a pile of bear scat.

I would think that if your Glock gets “ scratched”, the bear is too close!

This brings up a question for me to ask, has anyone bought the XDm 3.8 10mm, and does it have more barrel flip/rise than the 5.25?

I have a Dan Wesson 6” long slide that’s very accurate and easy to shoot. I have a Tisas 4.25 bobtail , I like it and it’s very reliable but very snappy with full house loads with 200 grain Montana hard cast bullets but it’s still doable. Shot a S&W that my friend was selling but I hate plastic gun so never purchased it but it did function flawlessly.

I bought a G20 way back in 2008ish. At the time there were only 2 other guns made I think. I can't believe how many options there are now. Thing just collects dust in the safe cuz to me handguns are boring AF and annoying to carry even on a chest rig.

Well... yes...Glunks are boring.

I literally fell asleep WHILE shooting one.

Get a Sig 320. It literally could fire at any moment, for no reason at all. That should hold your interest.

Kidding, ppl. :)

Lots of 10mm options out there. Had my G20 since the early 90s. Bren ten and delta elites were still around but the Glock was the pistol that could handle the hottest of the 10mm ammo. At that time, it happened to still be the Norma 170 and 200 grain ammo. Today it's even better and designed for dangerous wildlife you might encounter. The Sig, Springfield and S&W are all very good options also. In hand comfort isn't something many and even most love about the Glocks. The XD just may be the best of all in that area. My next 10mm will be that XD. Having the G40 and G20, I'm intrigued by the reviews of the XD pistols. Massad is the best at what he does. He's a master pistolero and has a plethora of knowledge in all things pistols.

My favorite round, I own four of them. 4, 5, and 6 inch 1911s, and the short barrel S&W MP. The 1911s are all easy to control, and the long slide is like shooting a 45 in a 5 inch (full power 10mm ammo). The S&W is a true defensive carry gun, it's light and you pay for it in the palm of your hand. 3-4 magazines is about all a range day is. Not as bad as a 329PD (lightweight 44Mag) though, not even close. I still carry the 329PD in grizz country, but I wouldn't feel under-gunned with the 10mm.

First off I love the 10mm and 357sig. The greatest thing about an old ugly Glock 20 is that it carries 15 rounds of high energy. If you have a huge fur ball charging you, maybe you can get off a shot or two. But 15 rounds gives you the chance to spray and pray! 15 rounds of 200 grain semi wadcutters (1250 fps) going down the tube is hard to argue with! Also Glocks just seem to work!
