Weaver 45x question

Recently acquired a used Weaver 45x.

It's not very bright, and the eye relief is critical, to put it mildly.

Never had one before so I'm asking for experienced opinions.

Is this normal, or no?

Takes the fun out of shooting my .22lr.

I have a Weaver T-36 and it has the same issues. In my experience, a 40 mm objective is ok with a 20x scope but it's pretty small for a 36x. It would be lots better with a 50 mm objective, but the T-36 is old school. If I recall correctly, the old Weaver 45x has a 45 mm objective which is also decidedly small by today's standards.

Thought I answered your question. Maybe not... YES, it's normal. If your objective lens is old school you're going to have those issues.
I understand. Just holding onto a bit of hope that I was missing something.

I guess not.

Apparently, this scope is not for me.

Do you mean the 46X XR scope? remember these only go down to 47-48 yards stated minimum parallax is 50 yds.
I have two and they replaced Sightron 45X ED as the Weaver were brighter. make sure you have the ocular adjusted correctly,

Apparently, it's a 36CT 'Micro Trac'. 50 feet to infinity.

So I apologize. It's apparently 36x.
Target 36x40.

I could deal with the lack of brightness. I'm not shooting at dawn or dusk.

But that eye relief is a PITA.

Had one years ago. Optical clarity was very good but, yes, eye relief was critical. That much magnification with a 40mm objective lens is most of the issue.

The eye relief on the Weaver CT36's is a bit over 3". That's going to be similar to any other scope in that magnification range, regardless of brand.

In short, it's not the eye relief, it's your head positioning that's critical. That's with any high magnification scope, no matter the brand.

If you're new to this type of scope, how you position yourself behind it makes a big difference. Ring height, stock LOP (very overlooked) and how you set up behind the gun all matter more than a little.

I understand what you are saying. I should spend some time getting the eye relief and my position matched as closely.as possible and see how that works out.

Thank you.
