New H-4895

Recently got 4 Kegs of H-4895,2 different lot #'s, All are Slower than the Old H-4895,I got 3-4 years ago. Has anyone else ran into this problem?? My newest 6BRA Defiance-28" Bartlein .272 No Turn Nk,McMillian Stock,Night Force 15 x55x 52 scope ,rifle basic 4-20 oz trigger, groups @ 100 yds,various bullets,a few @300 yds.The New 4895 is 50 to almost 100 fps slower ,depending on charge. Been using a Sinclair F Class Bipod, I get some Horazonal movement with it. It is the adjustable height model.I lock it Down all the way to Stop it. Looking for An Adjustable F Class Bi-Pod that Does Not Move, Any Recommendations on a good bipod

Take one of the pounds and and put it in a tin pie pan and heat it to about 100F for a few hours, then try it again.... I use a food dehydrator for low temp control and not having my wife freak out with powder in the oven.

Cant you just adjust the charge up a bit to where it use to shoot velocity wise?

I just bought a new jug of H4895 but haven't tries any of it just yet.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Run another ladder, get the tune for the new powder then see how it shoots.

When I did the Bolt lift became Hard,it]s a 28 " barrel,my other 2 6BRA's have 30 &31 " barrels, Fire, Forming loads run 2875 to 2900 fps with 29 Gr of Old H -4895

I Run the same charges with the New Kegs of H-4895 with various bullets ,I seat Barts Gungner's .009 Deeper than Barts Hammer,or Berger Hybred 105's the New Lots are 2750 to low 2800 fps,The Old powder runs 2875 fps to 3000 fps depending on charge ,29,0 to 30.2 grains

H 4895 seems notorious for lot to lot variations, I would follow Jet’s recommendation and run a powder ladder for each new keg regardless.

Besides H-4895,I have tried Varget,H-4350[a few], N-135 with Barts Hammer,Gunger, Berger Hybred's, Hornady Aero-Match,Barnes Match Burners,all 105 gr. a few 95 M.Kings blemished. All are faster with N-135 & Varget,My Main problem. I have Deteroriating retina in right eye, Deteroriating cornia in left eye ,here are the results,some groups with a Flyer marked ME, are EYES & Bi Pod. This barrel seems to shoot everything great. most of my shooting is 600 &1000 yards.Just got a new Defiance Classic action,& 2- 31" BARTLEIN HV Palama barrels,May Need an Intervention,addicted to shooting lol.

What happened with the Velocity after heating ? Stop heating when I hear the boom. lol

I had some slow lots and was told to try the low heat to dry it out. Brought the velocity up about 120 fps with a 30 gr charge in a 6 BRA. Found that if I do it on every lot, the lot to lot variability smoothed out to about 10 fps which is about what you get within the same lot. I load 29.8 gr of dried and see 2900 fps in a 105 hybrid.

While 30-40 fps is common between lots of powder, 100 fps is not. A good reason to let Hodgdon know what you have found. I'm sure they do a lot of testing before they bottle it but your experience is not normal.
Give them purchase date, where you purchased, and lot number. It will help everyone.

Instead of H-4895, for my .22-250 Rem loads, w/ 50 to 60 gr., Bullets,.. I opted for, IMR 8208 xbr and,..
I'm really, Happy with, My choice of, Powder for those, bullet weights !
Very, consistent and I NEED That, in Idaho as, Cold Winter / Spring to, quite Hot,.. in Summer !
And It AIN'T Made by,.. Hogdon !

Why can't "They" get, the Lot to Lot, Formula of, H-4895,.. Correct ???
Haven't heard of ANY, Velocity / Pressure, "issues" with, IMR 8208 xbr
And I did quite, a Bit of Research Before,.. trying it.
It's One of the Top, .223 Rem Powders for, Accuracy
