6br barrel life between two loads

So after having a couple barrels in 6br using varget and N140 with 108s, what I see online and what I'm getting for barrel life seem to coincide. I'm curious how much that number would change if you were shooting N135 with a 68grain projectile, or even 80grainers. Is there a significant difference in barrel life? What are your experiences?

I ask because it's time to rebarrel for me and with shooting a max of 300 yards I just don't feel like 108s are needed, especially when 99 percent of my shooting is done at 200 and in with an occasion match at 300 yards, which I like using my 30BR for anyway. If I can gain a substantial amount of barrel life I'd like to take advantage of that.

Thanks fellas

How many rounds did you get with those two powders and the 108s?

Your groups went from .xxx to .yyy??

Since the price of the two bullets are about the same but the Barrel life of a 30br is two to three time as much as the 108's. I'd go with the 30BR.
30BR barrel is still good to go. Just looking for something else to shoot, and wondering if the barrel life would be a lot better with the lighter bullets in the 6br

I can’t answer the barrel “life” question. But I have data on throat erosion in a 6GT using RL 15.5 vs Varget.

Varget average throat erosion rate~.005 per 100 shots

RL 15.5 average throat erosion rate~.002 per 800 shots

I was shocked by the lack of throat erosion from RL 15.5.

15.5 charge weight was only 0.1 grains less than the Varget load and they both produced the same velocity.

Thats super slow on the 15.5, and awesome! Was this in the same barrel or different ones?

I've used N-135 and AR-Comp for 95% of my 6br shooting with the 64 gr Berger. Throat erosion after 1990 rds is appx .050. That # isn't etched in stone but very close.

I've used mostly N150 with 107 SMKs for 90+% of the 1767 rounds this barrel has seen so far, and touch for me is now 1.870" Same lot of bullets at 73 rounds total was touch at 1.855", or 0.015" over ~1700 rounds. Yes, same method of finding touch - Alex Wheeler's method, backed up with land marks to no marks using Dykem. Which means I've gone from +7 to -8 and didn't really notice the transition, particularly in the just at touch area, whenever that was. I kept using Eric Cortina's method of testing a couple different seating depths in addition to the current one that's working and the original seating depth kept holding up. Before each match would usually test current (which is 1.862" for me or +7), then -3, +3, and +6 from current, and current was always the best.
