Rem 700 action

Not wanting, not selling. I know they’re usually slow as hell to deliver, but I see PTG has new complete 700 bolt and receiver advertised at $399 in any configuration you want. Maybe I’m missing something, but I’m seeing the used ones trading higher on this site!

Link?

PTG has been iffy from what I have read. Consult your local AI to aggregate some links.

I personally wouldn't run one in a gun I consider a serious gun.

I'd rather run a 20 year old Savage action than a new PTG.

If any reps from PTG are here, I accept T&E for testing. Tis the season for SHOT.

I looked at the link. I'd rather buy something gently used for a hundred dollars more, from someone here, for something worth more.

But I digress.

I looked at the link and:

Remington Model 700 Short Action Blowout SALE

On sale: $599.00 $601.00

$601... with 'the stuff'.

So, if you have the stuff, it's $400 (let's not play their marketing game)
If not, it's $600. Or more, if you get better quality.

but I’m seeing the used ones trading higher on this site!
Agree, asking prices are often high, at least IMO. But hey, it's a free country and people are free to overpay if they so choose.
I wouldn't pay more than $400 for a used one, complete. One can buy a factory new ADL S/A rifle for $600 and sell off the stock and barrel.

I built a really nice .243 Win for a guy that ordered one of the Stiller Drakkar actions. Very nice action for the money. took a couple months to get it, but he was very happy with the finished product.

I’ve had just the opposite experience. Had to cancel a custom order after almost a year of delays and poor communication.

I won't be buying from them again!! Aweful experience and quality of the blueprinted action was very disappointing. I think if I hadn't hounded them over and over I still wouldn't even have it yet

In the description for those actions they say they are Lagrange manufactured "these actions are new Remarms Remington model 700 actions made in Remington's Lagrange Georgia plant. These actions are precision made with perfectly concentric raceways and precision bolts including original cast handles."

Does anyone have any experience with the new Lagrange actions and if they are any more "precision made" than the Ilion legacy actions? One would think they started out with new machinery that would be more consistent/precise.

As far as PTG on this specific item they could be just passing thru factory actions and making $ by adding the 'fries with that" with triggers and such. I might try one just to check it out. I like what they try to do overall but hope the execution can match going forward, clearly it hasn't at times but I'm willing to give a business a break that has failures and then works to fix them versus all the large corporations that are intentionally screwing us and have no goal except profits at any cost.

The picture on PTG's website shows an RAR action with the rest of the serial blurred out. These typically are very straight and true, but the bolt primary extraction leaves a lot to be desired. They mention "precision bolt" which could mean that they have done something to address this. For $399 I'd consider this. I wish they had a non-bolt option and I'd get a PTG one or two-piece bolt for it. Caveat emptor.

Just got back from the Shot Show and spend a little time in the PTG booth... the key news I heard was that they are making some serious changes to repair their ever-sinking reputation in the customer service area. The folks supposedly taking over are well-known to this forum, but I don't have enough 'official release' info to say more. I was encouraged by what I heard, but still skeptical until the implementation proves it out.

It has been extremely annoying for many years that the website in-stock status is pure BS. I ordered 2 in-stock reamers (different calibers) on Christmas day. Got one about 10 days later, the other is still (at least) 5 weeks out. It has been "normal" to place an order for a heavily promoted item, only to have to wait 6-9 months for it to be made (most recently a standard 700 bolt!).

Don't trust the pictures...I did and even emailed them asking some questions before placing my order....still didn't get the same thing as pics or the "gunsmith" told me

Been a PTG customer for many decades and no such problems with product to specs or times of delivery after order. But then again, I make sure I understand what I need and they understand exactly what I want made. I order truing tools, reamers, actions and bolts.
