How Many Guns in the Collection?

I'm young compared to a lot of you guys on here. Gonna turn 42 in April. Lots of guns have come and gone over the years. Can't really pinpoint a single one that I regret getting rid of. With that being said, I still have way too many. I thought getting into the TC Contender would solve some things. All it did was make it worse. Now I have 6 frames and who know's how many barrels, pistol and carbine. I have pretty much everything covered. There is always something in the way in the safe. I have always looked at guns as a great investment and someday my daughters can sell them off and enjoy the money some other way. But much like many of you have said, it might be time to downsize and just simplify life. I battle that idea almost daily.

Seriously, I lost count after about five dozen. An entire 60x40 Fort Knox, a queen sized bed, and every corner in several rooms. And a few loaned out to friends. Buying another 66x40 Knox for my daughter's house this year

Ive sold alot, but thot thru it very carefully before I did and really don't regret any that are gone.

The ones I have left are what I would consider.Essentials. All have a specific task or purpose that I pretty regularly use them for.

Maybe the only one I sold that I regret is A Stunningly accurate 22tf Vudoo.. It was a repeat match winner. Right now , that's the only one I can think of that I might buy.

I probably have a lot less than many of you, but I probably have so many that would cause a lot of people.I know to freak out. :)

Due to life circumstances at one point I needed to downsize and sold probably 75% of my collection but made a deal with myself that if in a few years there was something I really regretted selling I'd replace it with something equal or better. 10 years later I've replaced one Contender factory barrel I sold with a custom barrel and that's it. At this point frankly I don't want any of it back, I'm so much happier with the current simplified version of my hobbies than the gear circus they used to be.
One of the happiness times in my life was when I only had one centerfire rifle, a 243 Win, Model 70 with a 3 x 9 Redfield scope in the mid to late 60's. I hunted deer, groundhogs, crows, and foxes with this rifle. I became so familiar with this rifle that I became a very proficient field shot. Hunting all year around with the same rifle no doubt added to this familiarity.

"Gear circus" is an excellent characterization of my nonsensical past accumulation of stuff. The freedom of downsizing is liberating. I like simple. ;)

I asked my family if they wanted the collections I had and all they wanted were specifc pieces, so to the collections they went. I just sold entire lots at a single price to fellow collectors. Easiest and the hardest way to do the reduction, some you want to keep, but the lot sale is more important in a reduction. I know the pieces and I know the value and I know whom would be interested, plus most of the collectors were dealers themselves, as I was. I reduced the numbers down to 10%. You can do as you wish.

We have three 24 to 40 gun safes, 0ne 20 gun safe. All full with over flow secured in cabled racks. Have the US property mark collection, the rifles from my Service Rifle days, some dedicated Across the Course rifles, four BR rifles, the shotguns, the rimfires and the pistols and revolvers. And the F Class rigs. It is easy for me to build or buy one but near impossible to let one go. I still have and occasionally shoot the 22 I got at 9 years old, an old Noble single shot, she bluebooks at $38.

I am younger than you & I am in more of a selling than buying mood these days. I got involved in a few estates (both FFLs & non-licnesees) recently & it had me questioning how much of this stuff I need.

A few years ago I started selling anything that had not been shot in 10 years or more unless it was US military, said Colt on it, was a machine gun, or I was hunting with it.

Even my wife was shocked at what got sold. Like I told her, back when this stuff was cheaper & more available, it was buy it cheap & stack it deep, especially before she was around to notice.

When my son gets old enough, it will be all his, if he doesn't want it, I'll try to dispose of while I still have a pulse to ease the burden on him. Hopefully, he'll enjoy building rifles, hunting, & shooting machine guns as much as I have.

Buy more safes. They sell them everyday and you're allowed to own several.... Buy safes that are way bigger than you think you need, because they are just like garages and reloading rooms - Almost immediately NOT BIG ENOUGH!! Take a wild guess why I know this...

Lastly - Stop talking about how many you might have on the innanet! - Safes that is...
