Doppler radar chronographs

Serious question.

Does anyone know if doppler radar chronographs emit any harmful radio frequencies to humans?

I have been trying to collect data on this, but nothing seems conclusive yet.

Whether or not high frequency RF's might be harmful depends on the power of the source and distance you're at from the front of where it's being emitted. The farther away you are the less "harmful". Though the frequencies these chronographs use emit low power "non-ionizing" waves where they're pretty much just get absorbed by the skin and don't penetrate due to the nature of high frequency waves and their low power. As for the amount of power, I think it's in milliwatts compared to the high wattage of microwave ovens. Though, I still wouldn't want to press one up again my temple for any length of time to see what happens. ;) :p

Thank You for this info. I don't own a doppler chrono yet but was trying to learn as much as possible before purchasing one.

Something to keep in mind is they emit the microwave energy forward of your shooting position and only when you've enabled it to take measurements.

And if I remember my physics classes in college (50+ years ago) , the energy is reduced by the distance from the emitter by either a log or square value , so it is unlikely that any meaningful level of energy is a factor unless you literally hold it up to your head like a cellphone

Well, if you’re in front of a Doppler chronograph you’ll most likely have a bigger problem than any emissions from the chronograph unit would cause.

It’s easy to do when the line is cold and you’re retrieving / changing your targets.

I try to remember to turn mine off when the line is cold. I don’t always but I try.

It would be interesting to compare intensity with other common radar sources.

I assumed the power level, which is set by the government, included their concern for the human beings who would be in the beam during normal use.
