Carbon in Barrel Grooves Not Consistent?

I have noticed over the years that one grove in almost every barrel will hold more carbon that the others. There is always one that one has to decide, should I keep going or just forget about it. The questions comes, why is this condition there? Is that grove deeper than the others? If so, why? I have seen it in doth buttoned and cut barrels.

I would assume that they are deeper but I don't worry about them, and if there are a few spots like that, as long everything looks consistent, i just get most of it out without wearing my barrel down enough to get those spots out that are always there last. They don't effect my accuracy. Look at Savage barrels. If you tried to get those barrels clean, they might not shoot again. I do have some barrels that I can get spotless with little effort though.

Any chance the groove is always at the bottom of the barrel?
I get more carbon in the bottom groove because the gunsmoke settles there.
