Williams peep site for Savage 99

While cleaning out some stuff I found a Williams peep site that was in a little zip lock that had a Savage 99 paper for something different. Since we did have a Savage 99, I'm thinking the we took the site off the gun when we sold it.

I tried selling on Ebay.. made a sale, but then it was returned saying it didn't fit. I see the sites don't fit all Savage 99s. I did post the year of the gun we had.

What I'm looking at are suggestions when I re-list so I can make sure the sale goes through and I don't get another "doesn't fit my gun".

The Savage 99 we had was 1952. I've got no photos of the rifle. This is the site.. the screws are the same length ( I see others listed that show different length screws). There is no # on the peep site for model/style of course.

The Savage 99 we had was probably bought with the sight already on it. From what I've seen, the year we have would have needed drilling to put on this sight and I doubt we had that done.

I have quite a few william's sites and I just installed one on a Lee Enfield, There are normally a couple of letters or numbers stamped on the underside of the site. The one I just mounted had an "LE" stamped on it for Lee Enfield, Look to see if you can find any markings, But that site does look like a site designed to mount on the tang, Which would make sense for a Savage 99.

I searched with a magnifier headset and couldn't find any marks. I had one for a Winchester 94 that was marked and that one was in the original box. Maybe I'll have to go over it again.

You might remove the sight from the base and see it’s stamped on either part of the dovetail.

I took it apart and still see no marks on it. I can only measure the screw holes with a tape measure and it seems to be 17/32" center to center of hole. I may have to throw my hands up in the air on this one.

Well, Here is a site that looks like yours, Also advertised as a Modell 99 savage peep site. My guess is, As with many firearms, Changes were made over the years and your site may fit a Model 99 Savage, But just not the one your buyer had.

Here is a thread explaining that your site will only fit the tang on rec that had tang tapped holes made for the site.

thank you. that was very interesting and explains the differences well. I will try a listing again but with a lot of specifics.. more in tune to the ad in one of your links.
