Suggestions for 1000 yard .308 load

Any suggestions for a .308 load to shoot 1000 yards? The gun is an H-S Inc Precision Pro-Series 2000 SA .308, 1:12 twist, 25” fluted barrel, built in 2003, tested with 168 grain federal gold medal ammo. Scope is a Vortex Razor HD 5 - 20x50 FFP sitting on a 20 MOA picatinny rail.

Id say your hindered from the get go with a 12 twist barrel if you really wanna try. Heavier bullets are going to hold that extra lobbing it out there together better.. which is more conducive to a 10 twist.

You might try some 169 SMK's using AR-Comp???

The Berger 185 juggernaut will tolerate the 12 twist out to 1000 yards. Not an ideal approach, but it should work. Do you have any local friends or a local 1000 yard range to with people to help?

I can get to 1,000 yards out my front door. Also have my son to assist but I need a good spotting scope.

Jump on a 300WSM and save yourself a lot of aggravation. The 308 can do it but your pushing it’s limits. I just built one with a heavy barrel and the recoil isn’t as bad as I expected for this 68 year old.

Besides the 175SMK, what are the best bullets for banging steel at 1000yds with a 22" 1-10 twist .308 Win?

I’ll second the Sierra 169 smk, I’ve shot them at 1000 over varget with great success. Small rifle primer brass is your friend for low ES and Sd

I will pile on with the previous recommendations for the 169 or the 185 Juggernaut. The 175 SMK in the GMM is inferior to both of these. I have not seen 169’s in factory loaded ammo but the 175 and the 185 Jugg are GMM factory options. Get a box of each and see how they fly from your barrel.

I agree with Jeff and Dgd6mm. I shoot a 26” barrel with Berger 185 Juggernaut and 175 SMK. I use H4895 and FGMM Primers. My barrel is 11.25 twist. It shoots very well. Have not tried the 169 SMK’s. If going to 1000 I would recommend the Juggernaut’s.

That combo has worked well for me with a 24" barrel and Lapua brass.

Rumor has it, that the Berger 155's aren't too shabby either.

Here is a wild plan. Replace the scope with some irons and try the 155s. You can give up ballistic advantage, give up on precise shot placement, learn to squeeze a heavy trigger and get blown around in the wind..... the path less travel can be more rewarding.

Try some Hornady 168 ELD-M. I shoot them to 1250 yards in matches and they do great. Excellent BC for a 168 and do very good going transonic. I run them at about 2750fps pushed by Varget out of my .308.

Don't forget the Palma shooters that are limited to 155gn....open sights......no $2000 front rest or $300 rear bag.....all hand held with sling....some of those Palma shooters really make the F-Open shooters look really weak. I have a lot of respect for the Palma guys....I've seen videos of them .....really impressive.

Best for me was the 175SMK's, but, I was shooting a 26" 1:10 barrel. My barrel did not like the 168SMK's. The recoil took it's toll on me so I went to the 155 Bergers. They were just as accurate but more sensitive to wind. I was not competing so I did not push them hard.

A Palma shooter I know uses the Juggernauts and 155's but she pushes them really hard out of a +30" barrel.
