Well, took a chance on a new brand. Condition 1 .
I usually use Pelican and SKB cases, but the prices have skyrocketed. ($1500+ for an SKB big enough to fit my Tac .50 !
I'm not a believer in transporting expensive firearms in soft cases. Soft cases prevent scratches, but do nothing to protect against impact and possibly knocking a scope out of zero.
After spending $15K for a new rifle, it needs to be in a hard case.
I bought the largest hard case Condition 1 makes model #2319 ((56" long inside measurement) and 9" deep. Just big enough for my McMillan Tac.50 (29" barrel) and a Vortex Razor HD 6x35x56 scope with an inch to spare on the length. Width wise still PLENTY of room.
Have not had it long enough to judge it's long term use. Just received it yesterday. The case appears to be pretty good quality. Made in the USA!
Sturdy, not flimsy. Heavy duty handle and wheels. A little heavy, but what ISN'T heavy when you shoot fifty's?
The only complaint I have is, the latches unlatch just a little too easy. You can actually unlatch it WITHOUT pressing the center release. HMMMM.
On (old) Pelicans you really gotta' yank on em to open, and smack em hard to close. There are holes to put locks all the way around. I think I'd be inclined to put a small zip tie or two in the lock holes as a safety precaution, just in case the latch flips open.
Price was ok at $409 plus tax, free shipping.
Not too much else available for a rifle case of this size.
We'll see how it fares this spring after the snow melts.
