And I proof read that about 5 times.Didn’t post a price
CCI 400. I’m thinking the regular primers along with having a lower case capacity fill percentage (I think it’s at 79-80%) caused some sort of funky pressure spike, or something weird like that. I have so much brass for this particular rifle that it wasn’t worth experimenting with. I just went back to plain’ol large primers.Which primer did you use?
What is the cartridge called using this brass the way it is? 22-308?
Holey moley. And to think the .243 is hard on throats...A 22-243. Usually you’d use 243 brass because it’s just a 308 necked down to a 6mm and that’s one less step to take necking the 6mm down to .224, but I was wanting to use small primer and I wasn’t able to find any small primer 243, so I had to settle for the 308.
Yeah, it eats barrels like Pac-ManHoley moley. And to think the .243 is hard on throats...
I bet a Rem 7.5 or CCI 450/BR4 would help a lot with the piercing issues. 400s arent meant for that kind of pressure. Also, if you're bolt/firing pin isn't bushed, that would also help a lot. I noticed on the primers it didn't pierce, they look to be cratered really bad.
Only reason I say those 2 things is because I had the same issues with my R700 223 Wylde I had built last year. Started with CCI 400s and a non bushed bolt/firing pin. Was piercing primers on middle loads. Switched to Rem 7.5s and got my bolt/firing pin bushed as recommended by the guys on here, and I haven't had a single issue since. Shooting 75s at 3K now, so fairly warm loads from a 28" barrel. Nice round primers, no cratering, and no piercing.
What type of action is it? If it's an R700, they are somewhat prone to that issue.
