When your barrel maker calls…

and let’s you know your barrels are done, you hook up to a lathe and drive 600 miles to pick them up.

I have been waiting on this call since before Anthony moved American Barrel Company to Alabama. I was excited to hear that he is back in production and my barrels were done. I didn’t plan on picking them up in person, but Anthony had a lathe located close to me and needed it in Alabama. That was all the excuse I needed to go for a drive

It was great to visit with Anthony and see his new shop. He showed me the equipment he uses to make barrels. I even got to watch him put the finishing touches on my barrels. I’m looking forward to getting these barrels chambered and shooting them!

That move was a long time in process, mainly due to COVID and post pandemic supply shortages IIRC.
Glad to see he's got good things happening now.
Never owned a ABC barrel but defintiely not against trying them out.
I don't know his lead times or if he is direct sales only. Not even a contact for him.

Howdy !

Great effort you made there, young man !

Did you arrive in Alabama, early ?

What chambers will you be going with, on these barrels ?

Just cool beans, all-around !

I made it to Alabama around 11:30 am. I stuck around for a little while then headed back to Indiana. The drive down was a lot better than the drive back. I made it to Indiana in time to get into snow. We had about 5” when I got home.

These barrels will get chambered in 6 ppc. I hope you get an 8” twist from him in the future for a BR or variant.

My first rifle was a used Hall 30 BR with an ABC barrel. That one shot great!

Thank you Boilermaker!!! I owe you big time for hauling that lathe down here. Thank You

Yes it was a hell of a battle to move my shop by myself. Here is a pdf of a little short story that shows what I went through. I posted this a while back on the benchrest central website.

I am currently trying to build up some inventory before I go mainstream so I am not yet taking any new customers.

Thank You

Thanx for the update response !

I live on the South edge of New Haven, within 2mi of Fred Sinclair’s former operations.
Fred did my initial varmint/target rifles…. starting back in 1977.

I am awaiting a new .224” gain-twist from Bartlein, for my next anti-groundhog rifle project. The barrel was over in” profiling “, last time I checked.

thanks for info and the story of your move. I have wondered how it was going. I hope your barrels will be available one of these days soon. you sure put alot of effort into it and i hope it all pans out.

Those are some very nicely stamped barrels - gives a nice first impression vs some of what looks like hand stamped barrel ends
(I kinda like...to be able to read and understand everything I am looking at on the barrel end )
and if that is any refelction of his quality
I think I may try one
---Can you provide a link to his website? All I find is an Oak Barrel Co
Are his barrels "Cut Rifled?"

If you think the stamping looks good, you should see the finish on the barrels (inside and outside). If you have to do any polishing on these barrels after chambering, it’s because you marred it while chambering :p

ABC barrels are button rifled. He does not have a website, but Anthony is on this forum and following this thread @oliver88. You could probably get him to answer a lot of questions via pm.
