45acp or 9mm

I was too for single opponents. When there are more than that it becomes necessary to balance number of shots and how soon before you reload.

The Two-One was developed for the HiPower (IIRC) so having 15rnds meant you probably would not need to factor in a reload. The Presidente was three targets, 2 shots each, then reload, then 2 more shots each, developed for the 1911 and other single stack designs.

The best training session I got was from a protection detail person who taught surveying a room. Which 'target' received the first shot and if they were given a second shot before moving to the next one, and so on. When to move, reload, etc. He was the first who I heard say, slow is smooth, smooth is fast. Yeah, it was quite a few decades ago :)

but back then,
even civilians could open carry a .44 magnum without needing to qualify with it.
I remember I used to open carry mine in my vehicle to and from work
I rolled through a sobriety check once, 44 Super Blackhawk sitting there on the seat which was not a normal sight.
Cop didn't even bat an eye, just said, "go on through"
---
another time, same town, had said 44 strapped to my hip during deer season to and from work
rode motorcycle for a quick departure should I see a buck
rolled through a 45 doing 55
got pulled over near home
pulled over then held my hands up and said "before we go any further, Im carrying"
he asked for my pistol, set it on his hood, he did not even check it
after our interaction he told me to slow down and handed my pistol right back
and this was in California
yes times have changed
So cops of course would have had "at least" --- the same privilege as any civilian
I don’t know where you are, but all that seems pretty standard where I live. Today.

Good morning,
What is the general census with folks here?
Between 9mm & 45acp

Is any one still using the 45acp.
Ive always loved the way a 1911 lays in my hand.
No other pistol on the market like it. And i like the fact i can tune the gun and trigger.
Lately i see a huge push in 9mm..its becoming the rimfire of the center fire world price wise

So in 2025 is it possible to find a higher capacity 9mm style 1911 with the same trigger system of a 1911.? Is that what the 2011 pistol is all about? Im trying to catch up.
Would you buy such a gun or stick with 45acp.
Even if your a reloader is there much difference in price between making 9mm or 45acp ammo once brass is purchased.
All i see is that goofy striker fire stuff. It is not for my old bent fingers. The looooong take up and clicks seems rediculous, it jist isnt for me.
Why cant we have drop in trigger systems for pistols like we do rifles that would be awesome. Haha..
I want a 3lb trigger pull. Short take up with a nice wall before release ive only gotten that from Kimbers, and Colts 1911..
I know im jimping around a bit but it was an odd topic that feels like it has been answered 15yrs ago when i wasnt paying any attention.
So whats your opinion and what did you choose or would choose
Thanks
9mm may expand, but .45 does not shrink is the old saying...

It is amazing that folks can not accept the fact that 9mm with modern ammo is just as effective as a 45 ACP. I have shot Severn hogs with 9mm’s all dropped at the shot except one that was facing me and I missed a spinal shot bully a few inches. It then turns broadside and next shot dropped her where she stood.

WMD Bell used a 7X57 Mauser for most of his 300 elephants. But hearing people go one about using big calibers make me wonder how Bell managed to even survive using his mouse gun. Oh yeah that is right he put the bullet where it needed to be and the elephants dropped.
I went pig hunting with a buddy once, we were on the side by side, he saw a large sow and asked to borrow my Sig 226 9mm real quick, shot her from sbout 70 yds and she ran maybe 20 ft and dropped.
So yes, shot placement is key and 9mm can be effective, It's just
I would not want to shoot at a bear with one, lol

I know what people choose to carry reflects a lot on what they regularly or realistically may encounter in their area.

I have an IMI Timberwolf 357 pump and I would not hesitate to shoot a bull or cow elk with it under 100 yds. But it would be a heart shot or a pass and it would kill it as fast as a 300 win mag. if I missed i would have 10 more in the tube to make up. ( yeah i know not legal to hunt elk with 357)

That is the gist of this thread. Add to that being in the 2025 era where we dont need to shoot horses with 45's anymore cause thats the best they had, and I bet a 9mm would have done an equal job IF the bullet hit where you were aiming just like what was required with the 45!

People think if you get hit with a low vel larger slug you are going to drop faster than with a smaller one going faster. That is bs and compounded when you add methampetamine into the formula. If you think the hoods who decide to rob you and probably kill you, so no witness, did not jack up to the max on some upper before the attack, then you are up for a surprise!

Here in NM it is legal to hunt any game with a .22 centerfire or larger (pistol or rifle). Muzzleloader is .45 or larger.

So, yes, you can legally hunt elk or black bear with a .22hornet or even a .25acp pistol (no FMJ or tracer).

They have changed the ML special deer season weapons to iron sights only, no inlines and full caliber bullets. ML for elk is still any ML .45 or larger and can have optics.

That is crazy considering how many idiots are now in the hunting craze!
