F-Class now has it's own Rules Book (2024)

Give it 8-10 sighters and a 20 shot record string. I don't care what kind of 'sock' youve got on it, the mirage is a killer. Put me in the solid 'NO' camp on suppressors in F-class. I'm all for hearing protection but I wouldn't want it for F-Class. I have used one on a 'F-practical' rifle shooting with F-class targets/scoring at the local 600yd. range. Definitely nice to have everyone on the line shooting suppressed, but the mirage coming from the muzzle end near the end of the string was a big problem.
Bbl heat mirage can definitely be a problem...but couldn't you put a mirage cover on the can, and a mirage shield over the bbl to keep it from interfering with the image through the scope? The rifle I had built for BR VS is a 6 Dasher on a BAT 3L with a 28" Bartlein hvy Palma 1-7.8tw. I now have a Sightron SV 10-50x60 ED scope on it, and on a calm day, bbl mirage would certainly be an issue, but an Armageddon Gear cover on the Ultra 7 does a decent job of keeping heat off the can from messing with me. But I still need a mirage tape for the barrel...

I tried that. Still significantly more heat and mirage than a straight 1.25" tube. I love shooting suppressed, I just don't like the idea for F-class. I may be an outlier.

Suppressors have there place for example on AR tactical. But I’m not a fan of them, I’m running 33 inch barrel, so whats that another 4-6 inches if not more hanging off the barrel. What do some of these suppressors weigh etc. that will be counted towards the weight of your rifle.

What place would that be? People have been shooting 20" AR-15s in .223 Rem for almost 30 years. If there was ever a low recoil, low muzzle blast round that *didn't* need a suppressor for match use, it'd be the .223 Rem. If anything, suppressors can make things worse in a DI gas system.

Depending on the size/material, as much as a pound - or more.

If they are allowed, people will either solve the problems or decide not to use one. Let the competitors decide. Has anyone from the rules commitee said why they decided not to allow them in F class, when they are allowed in all the other high power matches?

They aren’t allowed because some competitors live where they could never own one.

The problem with that kind of logic is that California may outlaw lead projectiles.

Lowest common denominator is not always a good idea.

It’s not like they improve accuracy and hold back certain states. Tuners actually do help but many people choose not to use them.

They are a great option for those who are sensitive to blast. They should be allowed where authorized.
