F-Class now has it's own Rules Book (2024)

Where is this? I am in Newark, OH. I'm an hour from Thunder Valley and Rayners. Kelbly's isn't too far either. I drove up there years ago and they helped me install my Jewell in my 700. It's a 1976 r700 in 6.5CM. Just a bipod. I don't even really need to compete. I don't need or want to win. I just want to shoot, learn and have fun.
My Range is Bridgeville Rifle and Pistol Club, in Bridgeville, Delaware -probably a bit far for you to drive...
But you would be welcome.

I would look into Alliance Rifle Club near Malvern, Ohio -good folks there that could get you up and going.
They look to be right at 100 miles from you.

I have shot f open the last three seasons of club matches with my hunting rifle. Bipod and rear bag. Don't hesitate to do the same. Especially if the matches have the Shot Marker targets. No more pit service and all your shots show up at your fingertips.

Shooting in matches has given my shooting more purpose and it doesn't have to be a money pit if you dont let it. Run what you brung and compete against yourself.

Well I wonder if some clown is going to try to use their new mini chronograph whilst shooting.... :p :p
Technically, if one has communications off and has the display covered so that individual shot data can't be seen while shooting - data to be looked at after the relay/match - does this qualify?

Old thread but good read. I am not a competition shooter. I just target shoot long range. I have pondered competition. Until now. Atleast not anything in F-Class (F-Prac looks neat). If you want more shooters on the line you better A) Get rid of the NRA. B) Make the rules so people with normal rifles can compete. I'm not spending $2,000 on a front rest. $5,000 on a gun. $3,000 on a scope. And waiting 2yrs on a "gunsmith" to "build" a rifle. This is why you have low numbers. Non-steerable front rest or bipod only. No single-shot actions. Just an opinion from somebody who loves to shoot that would love to be at a match with all these legend-ey people that will never get there because I cant spend $10,000 on a rifle/gear.
There are divisions your rifle will fit in.

Just a simple question - Didn't the NRA begin allowing suppressors in HP prone matches last year? The rifle I'm wanting to shoot is a single shot that I built to shoot some BR VS matches at my old club, and I had it set up with a TBAC Ultra 7 back then, which I intend to use in the match this weekend.

AR tactical they allow suppressors.

I will use our club as an example if you show up with a rifle with suppressor or brake you will shoot FO Club rifle have no idea who came up with that term, scores are not submitted to NRA. We never turn anyone away like some said bring what you got and shoot. All we ask is have a good 100yd zero. But if you have problems we will get the spotters out and look for bullet trace.

Will also say shooting matches is how I got a heck of deal on a FTR setup. Individual sold me his old FTR setup with 200-308 Lapua cases for $500 so my daughter could get into shooting F class. I eventually rebarreled it put about a 1k into it. My daughter moved to F/O another guy I knew wanted to shoot f class I sold it to him for what I had into it 1k bucks. You get the word out you are interested in a FTR or FO setup someone will have something. Far as scopes get a vortex golden eagle seems like the best bang for the buck right now.

Well, I had an idea that the NRA would be lagging behind the times when it comes to allowing suppressors for F-Class. It's too bad, since the match I was going to is shot on a covered firing line, and having suppressors on rifles reduces the muzzle blast considerably. I've shot precision rifle matches with tactical rifles at this same club for years, and it's always nice when the majority of shooters show up with suppressed rifles. At the end of the day, quiet rifles reduce the amount of fatigue due to noise - and I'd much rather shoot next to guys with suppressed rifles than next to someone with one of the more effective brakes mounted.
But also as expected, the guys at this club weren't at all concerned about me wanting to shoot a suppressed rifle, as many of them are old friends that I've shot HP with for 20+yrs, and since most of them are 60+yrs old, they just want to see guys like me continue to show up to shoot with them.

I have no desire to ever fill out paperwork for a suppressor. But with that write the nra F class rule committee and ask them if they will update the rule book to allow suppressors. Ensure you explain why they should, do not use because it’s quieter. They already know that, they want to know how allowing suppressors is going to bring more shooters into f class.

I can certainly understand some shooters' reluctance to screw around with the NFA paperwork to get a suppressor. All I can say is that once you've gotten used to shooting CF rifles with a suppressor, you'll probably never want to shoot without one again. It's ever so much more comfortable & pleasant to shoot with the muzzle blast suppressed. Some guys will deny that suppressors make it easier to shoot better with the muzzle blast muffled, but my personal experience over the past 20yrs of shooting with cans mounted has convinced me that it does indeed help me to relax because of the lack of muzzle blast anticipation. I believe the people who wrote the Hearing Protection Act quoted accurate figures that make it impossible to refute that data. If there were more actual Republican House & Senate members and fewer RINOs, that HPA bill would probably have gotten passed, and we'd likely have seen suppressors removed from the NFA list - then there wouldn't be any paperwork to deal with. Only time will tell how the provisions in the One Big Beautiful Bill that deleted the tax on suppressors will affect the ease of purchasing suppressors. I won't pretend to fully understand it nor the long-term effects of the bill that was signed into law...

How would one attach a suppressor to an F/O or FTR rifle with a tuner on it?

There are tuners designed to be used with a suppressor, such as the ATS (Adaptive Tuner System) or EC from Eric Cortina. Some say to add shims behind the suppressor and allow the suppressor to be the tuner. Personally, I've never tried to do this, but I probably should. I have a couple of older TBAC 9" cans that I sent back to the factory to have re-cored with Ultra 9 baffle stacks. They're both very quiet, but I've compared groups with them to groups with an Ultra 7, and on every rifle that I've used to compare them, the groups with the Ultra 7 have always been smaller. Rather than to make 'safe Queens' out of the two 9" cans, I should invest in one or more of the several tuners designed for this purpose.

What about the guys and gals running straight contour 1.250 barrels? I know I should do my own research.

My experience has been they get a little squirrelly doing 20+ shot strings...
Give it 8-10 sighters and a 20 shot record string. I don't care what kind of 'sock' you've got on it, the mirage is a killer. Put me in the solid 'NO' camp on suppressors in F-class. I'm all for hearing protection but I wouldn't want it for F-Class. I have used one on a 'F-practical' rifle shooting with F-class targets/scoring at the local 600yd. range. Definitely nice to have everyone on the line shooting suppressed, but the mirage coming from the muzzle end near the end of the string was a big problem.
