Savage 223 Bolt Head

Slowly but surely, I'm getting my Model 12 PTA's together. I now need to replace the .308 bolt heads with .223 bolt heads (2). I've searched high and low and I'm not finding any Savage Model 12 .223 left port ejection (left hand?) bolt heads. I want Savage, not PTG.

I have two PTA's, 223 and 6BR, both with right bolt left port. I prefer a right eject on these so my brass doesn't get flung off the bench. The spent case lays on the loading ramp so you just pluck it out with your finger. Very easy and convenient. I also snip one loop off the ejector spring to make ejection more gentle.

I thought of that, but I was unsure if that would work? That totally makes senses, and I like it!

I also have a savage mdL 12 and I replaced the barrel with a midway 6br brl. It would drop the case on extraction, making it difficult to get out. I removed the ejector and spring. Now the case stays in the bolt and is easy to pick out. I get strange looks when other shooters shoot it.

So, I need a bolt head without extractor and spring, just buying a stripped bolt head?

FUNNY! Never seen a Savage that has had to be modified so it won't throw the case. Every one I ever had drops the case before it ever gets to the ejection port. Unless I try to match the bolt speed of an AR15 then it ejects them.

I get it. It makes shooting off the bench real covenant. Pull case with left hand, put in ammo box, pick up new round and load with left hand, keeping right hand on bolt ready to chamber. Did I say that right?

All the Savage 223 I have owned all use this type of baffle. It shortens the stroke of the bolt to match the short case. Will it work with a left hand port? IDK.

All three of my PTA's don't throw brass. I run the bolt slow at
match's and generally will pick them out of the port if they don't
drop out into my hand.
