Barrel cost

Sir, the very vast majority of us buy one at a time. How much do you charge to ship one at a time?
The last individual barrel I shipped was $10.08
(Sorry about rounding down the .08)

I just shipped a barrel attached to a whole da’gum rifle and it was $23 with 5K in insurance.

I’m telling y’all…. Some vendors are making money on freight. Create a couple of accounts with shipping services and you’ll see. Heck, most of them pick it up off your front porch and take it to UPS/USPS for you.

Boxes could get you, but every barrel I’ve ever ordered came in a box, and every gunsmith I know has a stack of them he can’t wait to burn. So that’s moot.

I see that you are in Texas. Will you handle my shipping?
You said,"I just shipped a barrel attached to a whole da’gum rifle and it was $23 with 5K in insurance". Will you share how you did this please!

Last time bud…. Register with a shipping service or two or three. It is a small fraction of the price.

Here’s a great example…. I needed to ship some dies back in the early summer. I was in a hurry to get to work, and they didn’t fit in a medium flat rate. The UPS store wanted $28 and we no longer have a customer counter…. So I decided I’d wait until after work. Printed a label at home (I think it was shippo but it’s been a couple of months) and it was $6.30.

This all came to light for me when I was ordering from tackle warehouse in like 2014 and I couldn’t figure out how they were cheaper on baits but also had free 2 day shipping.

I did some digging and here we are…. You guys act like I just discovered a new element or something. I just found a better way to ship stuff, like millions of other people.

I will say, if you just need an excuse to think I’m crazy…. I only live about 7-10 miles from hubs or distribution centers for all 3 major carriers. So, a guy that lives in the middle of nowhere may or may not experience higher rates. I don’t know.

Young feller, an example of insurance with USPS click in ship I believe is $12.15 +$1.85 per hundred for over $600. So $5,000 would be what? I understand that you own a huge company that ships thousands of barrels, but we are speaking of raggedly ass masses that ship one item at a time.

I don’t own a company nor do I ship thousands of barrels. I ship one at a time, maybe two. Order the same way.

I give up. Charge whatever you want. Sorry I tried to help.

Good info is what we want,
"But I do ship a ton of barrels, and buy at least that many".
So 4,000 lbs of barrels-say about 800 barrels a year. Yes sir, that is a lot!
Ok…. Here’s some good info from Oxford.

ton (noun)
informal
a large number or amount.

Chuckle chuckle- from the leftist site-Wiki
A short ton is 2,000 pounds. Having received several barrels that had 5 pounds weight on them make about 400 barrels per ton or if you receive and ship tons?
This post is about barrel price though and shipping is just a part of this, My cost on barrels is lower than some, but for my use and not for resale.

Is this the place to come if you want to watch the Golden Girls beat the shit out of each other with lacrosse sticks?

Can't wait to read the next 600 posts...I'll be back in an hour. Carry on!

Oh, I have free shipping.

You do realize it's not free right? Haha
Yea, personally I don’t think you charge enough for Wilson dies especially given the fact that they ship free, but I’m going to keep buying them until you go up!

@butchlambert I’m sorry I forgot to answer the insurance question…. Yes, both UPS and USPS have crazy insurance rates. They don’t pay up without an act of congress either. Insure through the handler or a private firm. Pennies on the dollar.

You are correct on the insurance! Why should we pay to cover their F**ups! And yes, they very seldom pay a claim.

Larry, consider this. A company has to pay a person to ship, pay for a container and packing on top of the actual USPS,UPS or other shipping price. Shipping multiple barrels at one time will reduce your cost, but most of us can only afford 1 at a time.
Yep

Bruno’s had a good sale on Kriegers a while back
I picked up a HV 7mm for $375 shipped.

Sir, where do you get your freight info on barrels? If anybody shows $25 or less for shipping a barrel blank, they are getting the balance in their retail price for the product. You may drive a delivery truck, but you don't ship barrels!
Right on, Butch. You beat me to the computer keys.

His website shows $470 for shouldered stainless prefits. Each. Am I at the wrong place?
Right site. I got “Nutted” drop ins. And Bradley’s Barrels hold their own in competition.
And $470 for a chambered/shouldered prefit is an excellent price.
