Bench/Rifle setup question...

Currently, I'm building an adjustable front rest to help with my setup. I didn't have any plans of buying a "rabbit ear" rear bag, but using a Wiebad Fortune Cookie (Tater Tot). If I were to use the Fortune Cookie for a rear bag, would it do me any good to use a bag rider on the front?

I was wanting to also build a bag rider, but didn't know if it would work very well the way I was wanting to use it.

I'm having a little trouble visualizing what you have and what you're wanting to do. Let's start with the rifle. What kind if stock/chassis is it?

This is a front rest like I'm building. It'll have a different bag though.

I'm wondering if a front bag rider would have any benefit if I used a Fortune Cookie rear bag vs a rabbit ear rear bag.

A flat plate attached to the forend would help stabilize the rifle while firing.

If you will be able to adjust height with your front rest then a rabbit ear rear bag could help the rifle track a little better. If you want to be more involved in the firing process then the rear bag you have will be fine.

You probably would do as well using a bipod. Otherwise a 3in forend bag rider to properly fit a decent front bag, or you can end up chasing your tail. A used fclass bipod can provide excellent results and will fit the front rail in the stock.

I haven't even thought about an F class bipod. You're probably right. Thanks

We all enjoy different tings, I hope your ideas work. But I have learned that if your serious about competing, reinventing the wheel seldom gives you the results you hoped for.

@CharlieNC ...Thank you for the advice. That sounded like a good idea to me, so after doing a little looking around, I decided on one. I spoke with Henry Remple (nice guy) and ordered one of his bipods. I look forward to seeing it. After I get it, I can measure and find out what rear bag I need. Then I'll give Protektor a call.
Thanks again.

The skipods do work really well with choate stocks. I wish there was a bag rider for them to make it conform to a standard bag.

I used a sinclare 3” freeland adapter and it works well on a front rest too.

Get one with a flat top and ears at least 1/2in apart according to Protektor. I shot that Choate setup in Ftr.

That's good to hear. I'm with you in the bag rider. I've thought about milling a flat on the bottom and building a rider that would screw into the stock like their check rests do.

I looked at the Sinclair. It looks like it would work well.

The Sinclair should attach directly to your front pic rail that you had in picture.
