I was out looking for jasper this morning and found …l

I walk every morning with my wife and dog. Sometimes we just walk, sometimes we look for arrowheads, sometimes we look for particular rocks. This morning we were looking for jasper, I was about two steps from stepping on that dude. Luckily the dog was with my wife a few feet away. I carry when I walk, Glock 19 did the trick. I didn’t want to leave him alive and take a chance on the dog tangling with him.

He looks Mojave-ish if he was a tad greener.

If you get one not long after a shed they are beautiful green and worth tanning and turning into wall art or knife scales or 1911 grip panel coverings

In September 1974, while deer hunting in California, I found myself walking across a small rock slide. I stopped walking as I thought I heard something. There it was again. Ever so faintly, I recognized the sound of a rattlesnake. I froze. I looked down around my feet. There he was, about 12"-15" from my boot, all coiled up! My mind started racing, and I realized why it hadn't struck. He was too cold! I crushed his head with the end of my rifle's barrel. I cut 5 buttons off of him. I started to take off and I heard another rattle...Long story short...I ended up killing 6 of them the same way as the first. I still have the rattles. As I scooted off the slide, I could still hear more rattles. I am sure glad it was cold that morning.
