a 17 BR would be way overbore and a barrel burner for sureIs anyone familiar with this caliber? cant seen to find any load info. or even anyone who makes dies. Supposed to be a 22BR necked down case is all I can find.
I would have to agree a 17 Jet is about the perfect case size for a 25 gr .17As told to me by a long time 17 experimenter, if the powder charge weight is greater than the bullet weight, you have an inefficient barrel burner. His 17 jet could push a 25 gr Hornady hollow point hard enough they would blow up about 75 yards out. He was not a fan of the 17 Remington cartridge, but would drool over their 25gr HP bullets. He tried a lot custom and factory bullets and said he'd shoot them over anything made at the time.
Don't forget the 17 M4, it should have case volume close to the 17 Jet. Michael (songdog) did a shorten 17 BR I believe. Maybe he'll comment. Blakes 17 Lil Nasty, a shorten PPC was spot on case design. The PPC is a much better case for a big 17 than the BR. Of course I have a soft spot for the 17 Jav Imp.I would have to agree a 17 Jet is about the perfect case size for a 25 gr .17
Here is one side by side to a 22 BR case
Yeah I would agree if going that extreme a ppc case may be a better suitDon't forget the 17 M4, it should have case volume close to the 17 Jet. Michael (songdog) did a shorten 17 BR I believe. I would like one if I could find dies and stuff . I have been trying to get a 17 PPC together .Ive done two 17br. I happen to like it. Not saying it makes sense. I only shot 30+ gr bullets in mine. Hit a rockchuck at over 900 yards. Saw fur fly! Sure, its not efficient, eats barrels, etc. But if its what you really want then build it
