245gr Berger and the Biger 30's

I bought three boxes several month's ago for my 300 RUM. Looking forward to seeing what they'll do as soon as the weather warms up...

I tested them a bit in my 300 NMI hunting rifle with 9” twist proof barrel. I got them to shoot pretty decent and with good speeds using N570. But when the new 220gr Berger came out I decided to switch gears to that bullet since the extra speed would give me an advantage for the distances I planned to shoot and my freebore is set up for 215-230gr Bergers. Bearing surface on the 245 is LOOOOOOONG! When a chamber is throated properly for the 245 in a big magnum cartridge, it’s not the best choice for a repeater action unless you have a CFE-9 mag.
Never did go back to testing the 245. The 245 seemed touchy but my testing was very limited. They have potential and every rifle is different so just have to try.

Thanks, what distance are you planning to shoot with the 220's

It’s a hunting rifle and I generally try to get as close as possible. But hunting on the plains can make it tough to get close so I will take a longer shot if need be.

My son, wife, and I took 3 mule deer bucks with my rifle and the 220gr Berger bullet this last fall. Bucks shot at 370, 650, and 840 yards.

Just shot these 2 groups at 1875 Yards (1.07 Mile) last month with my 300 Norma AI in a 8.5” twist at 3030 fps. One 12 5/16” and the other was probably a true 8” group instead of 8 1/16” due to the top piece of cardboard being folded back.

Picture of the 1875 yard range with a 6’x8’ piece of cardboard underneath the red arrow. That’s the white speck under the arrow. lol. The 245 gr EOL’s do seem kinda finicky though.
