Lube for expanding using pin

What lube are you using for expanding necks with as final step after resizing cases with pin gages ?

Just got a Porters precision die and pins.

Since there can be many ways to organize your brass prep, this is another it depends answer. However, when starting out rookies, I suggest they use the same case lube they use to size the body, and then make sure their cleaning method removes all of it.
I FL size first. Then expand as last step. I currently use imperial sizing wax for FL resizing

When I use carbide pins, no lube is ever needed. Short Action Customs makes them in .0005 increments. No galling and they work perfectly.

Everything from SAC is great, but their website says their mandrels only work with their own dies, but that is incorrect. I use mine in a Porter precision dies, since I already owned a few.

David thanks for the info. I’ll look into them

For now I tired hornady one shot and helped them expand super smooth. So we will see what my test at 1000 yards tells me about the different size pins

Technically, a SAC expander mandrel will work in the Porter but, not in the way SAC intends their mandrel to operate. Any expander mandrel (pin gage, SAC etc.) used in a Porter works on the downstroke; it expands the neck from the mouth to the shoulder. When a SAC expander mandrel is used in a SAC modular die, the expander operates on the upstroke from the shoulder towards the mouth. I don't want to put words in SAC's mouth but their reason for the design is to eliminate expanding an unsupported neck, whether that makes much difference or not is a matter of opinion I suppose .
