Shooting seat for big old guys, recommendations?

My club has remodeled our 600yd range. Baffles now mean my old Sinclair stool is too high. I have read the discussions here about best shooting stools. Sturdiness is critical for my use. I am a big old guy, 6"2", 310lbs . I looked at abunch of drummer's thrones (stools) and I can't tell which one would hold up (literally) to my heavy , big rear. Any husky fellows(that's what they call fat kids in Department stores when I was a kid) who can point me in the right direction. :pand before you suggest a diet, I am already on one, down 30lbs over the past 2 years.

Thanks for any tips.

Likewise, but my issue is that one Club’s benches are built for people whose feet dangle while sitting on the John. At 6’5” and 210, it’s like sitting in an elementary school desk.
An easily portable/adjustable chair would be useful for me as well.

Jump onto Sweetwater.com and take a look at the Tama Round Rider XL, but Roc-n-Soc, Gibraltar, Yamaha all make very sturdy hardware. Look for double braced legs, can get a 4 leg throne too, if really concerned about sturdiness. Nitro/pneumatic height adjust usually has a lower weight rating than screw adjust, and costs more.

Could you disassemble it and see if it could be shortened where the base attaches to the post. It may have the height adjustment parts down there and in the way but maybe not. You've been using it and are happy with it and it is capable of holding your weight, if you could cut a few inches off the post and make a way to bolt it back together it might be like an old lost friend.

I shoot with several big guys. They all have drummer stools.motorcycle type seats.
No wheels, screw position not gas piston. Amazon has allot of choices. Read the reviews.
You kinda get what you pay for. But i agree on crazy prices anything over 200 is unnecessary.

A shooting friend is about your size but not quite as heavy, he uses a RocnSoc stool and has for several years. Other shooters I've been around that are closer to your weight have the same or similar stool, and the stools seem to hold up well.

I used to stock and sell these pre covid. Price and availability got crazy but it's well made and will hold more than the 300lb rating, IME. Stable, ample adjustment for most any bench and shooter, folds up nice and has been my favorite shooting stool for several years now. This one is priced pretty well and free prime shipping...fwiw. I highly recommend it.

Everybody around here that is, let's say, larger framed, uses the roc-n-soc drum throne. I am the one outlier but, that's only because I'm too cheap to pay retail. Watch FB marketplace and you can find them from $100-200 in great condition.

This is the new version of mine. You are not much bigger than me. This thing is built like a tank.

Maybe do a internet search for “work stools for large people”. Lots of options out there, some of them rated to support 400 lbs. not as handy as a drummer throne but sturdy for the use. Probably more comfortable seating as well. Also check choices for “stools for the handicapped.

Added: sturdy and comfortable may help your shooting position and your scores.

I use a Growdaily brand drummer stool from Amazon, $45 and guarantee it will support you with no problem.

I use a $35 folding directors chair with a flat boat cushion for added height. Metal tube legs, canvas seat and back. It has worked for me very well for many years. I can move out side the 'shack' for coffee and a visit and be very comfortable.

I'm not sure how big you are but, I'm 275lbs and have that exact stool and it doesn't inspire confidence in me. It is serviceable but, I will be surprised if it lasts a full year. Things are already getting all loosey goosey after about 3 months of moderate use.

Wow, uff da. I never thought I was big and old, but I guess I am. 60 yo and 205 lb. I can't do anything as good as I used to. Including making decisions.
