25 creedmoor or 25-06?

A friend of mine that getting close to 80 has shot nothing but a 250/3000 for as many years as I have been alive. I wish he'd write a book on his life. He was in the Airborne, he's lived and hunted all through Alaska, and Montana. He's hunted trapped, guided. He's taken every big game animal in North America, all with the 250/3000.

Thinking of building a 25 Creedmoor, but I know a guy who has a 700V in 25-06 I might be able to talk him out of. I still have my reloading stuff for the '06 but open to going to the Creedmoor.

Pro's/Con's on one vs the other?

25GT might be another.

Would be used for our varmint silhouette matches.

@JLT does any of that 25Creed data look about right to you? I have some Accurate 2700 on hand and that would be a good barrel to try it on.
I looked at the 110 grain Sierra TGK data and it looks pretty reasonable. 2700 should work well in this chamber. I noticed the tested twist rate of 1:8 and thought it interesting. It is the only .25 tested in this twist rate - the rest are all 1:10.

I’m glad they got it that close on twist rate then as it seems most do a 7.5 or 7 twist ratio in them. Thanks for the reply.

Not calling out anyone in particular, but the teacher (37 years) in me can't help but mention ..... does anyone know the difference between "than" and "then" these days? I see this so often, on so many different forums, and it drives me crazy! Everyone seems to use "then" exclusively.

What bothers me most about it is that the person using "then", when "than" is obviously the proper word in the context they are using it, may actually be making a valid point. Once I see the misuse of the word, however, I discount anything the poster has to say.

I realize it is a personal problem, just had to get it off my chest. This string i

Than" is used for comparisons, while "then" is used to indicate time or sequence. Think of it this way: "than" is for comparing things (e.g., "taller than"), and "then" is for time or order (e.g., "after that, then we went home").

Oh I'm definitely guilty of the above. There's been times I've gone back an read my own post and thought now how the hell could anyone understand what I was saying when I don't understand it and I'm the one who wrote it.

25CM for matches or target shooting. 06 for a hunting rig.
Replying to my one post on this one. The 25 CM is a great hunting round as is the 25-06, 257 Roberts and Weatherby and other wildcat .257s. I think a 25 Grendel would be also. Now that Hornady has come out with a slightly lighter ELD (128 ELDX)in the hunting bullet for the 257, I think popularity will increase even more for the 25 CM for hunting. They are making the Precision hunter ammo using that bullet in the 25CM.

Just saw a Hornady podcast from 3 months ago about wildcatting. They decided on a 25 cal with a 7.5 twist to shoot heavier than 120 grain bullets. Was this a tease to the 25 Creed?

Probably. It wasn't too hard to figure out with the popularity and wildcatting of the 25 CM that they'd release that cartridge and design a hunting bullet designed for it. They offer 3 bullets in the Low drag configuration for the fast twist barrels in .257. I'm sure we'll see another or two from them. More factory rifles need to have 7-7.5 twist barrels.

Is the 30 degree shoulder of the 25 Creed really a wildcat?

I guess I always thought a wildcat was any custom made cartridge that was a Non-Saami spec cartridge. Didn't know it had to have a certain degree shoulder. Maybe I just learned something today. The 6.5-284 use to be a wildcat based off the 284 which I believe has the same(35°)shoulder as the 284. I believe it was once a wildcat. Actually I also believe the original Ackley cartridge has a 30° shoulder. Could be wrong tho

No, you’re right. The 25 Creedmoor just seemed like it’s a necked down 6.5 Creed, so that was my question on the wildcat status .
