25 creedmoor or 25-06?

Back on the subject of a .25 caliber build, how about going modern with a 25-6.5PRC...??
I would be surprised if someone hasn't already trialed this as a Wildcat.
Ready supply of quality brass to start with and easy to form up.
Short action, though magnum bolt, efficient cartridge driving the 133gr Berger out of a 22"-24" barrel...
Good Hunting! ;)

I think Alex Wheeler said he was impressed with the hunting rigs he has built on 25 PRC.

Oh boy.
I have a special place in my heart for the 25-06.
The 25-06 was perfect since the day some one came up with the idea, and neck down the first case.
The 25-06 shoots flat, hits hard, hits fast, components are readily available, and cases can easily be made from 30-06 brass in a pinch.
Barrel life if good if ya keep the heat down.
I can easily shoot 50rds at the bench and not be beat up the next day.
It is a quintessential classic cartridge
And capable of taking anything down, and smashing bone beyond 350yd.
And you question it
WHY?
Then we have the hot rod .25 creedmore
We are looking at approximately 22 grains of case capacity difference between the two cases.
Some say the 25creed can do what the 25-06 can
I say your living in a dream world.
If your with in 200yrds go creed.
If your any sort of man worth his salt go with the 25-06
Hahaha..
That is honestly one difficult decision to make.
Im absolutely torn between the two.
Classic, proven performance, or chase that new car smell, new car feel, new car performance
Only to realize..(if only i had a little more gas in the tank)..
Good Luck brother..its easier for a man to pick between two beautiful women of your choice then two cartridges .

The .25Creedmor is a .22-250 necked up to .25cal. The .25-06 is a .30-06 necked down to .25cal....huge difference in case capacity and performance. The .25-06 will outperform the .25Creedmor especially with equal pressures.......remember you don't get something for nothing!
Good luck and stay safe.
First, the 25 Creedmoor is not a 22-250 necked up to 25 caliber. The base brass for the Creedmoor was not (though some claim they made Creedmoor brass from 22-250) ever the 22-250, at least in its final development.
If you measure performance by velocity alone the 25-06 is the likely winner but remember the tale of the tortoise and the hare. While the hare could easily outrun the tortoise it did not win the race.
I do not have any experience with the 22 or 25 Creedmoor versions but do with the 6 and 6.5 and both are plenty fast enough to do most any task the 25-06, which I do have a bit of experience with, will and do it with less powder, less recoil and (my observations) more accuracy.
EDIT:
I will also add that given a choice of 25 caliber cartridges to be used for matches and hunting mine would be the venerable old 257 Roberts in its modern-day +P designation. I just have an affection for the 257 Bob and it's the only Ruger #1 I own.

I’ve got one set of brass for the 6.5 Creedmoor that is small primer Starline. I was thinking if I did need extra brass for the 25 I could use that and the primer size would identify it sort of. Being the way I am, I went ahead and bought 150 Hornady cases and 2 boxes of 134 eld-m’s from Blue Collar the other day. Gotta start somewhere, lol!
I thought I might mention that the Hornady brass for the 25 Creedmoor sure looks exactly like Starline brass on the inside neck color. I would bet $10 it’s Starline with Hornady’s headstamp, lol!

If that's more oompf than you want, the 257 Roberts Ackley Improved should give you about 10% more powder capacity than a 25 CM. Sourcing good brass for Bobs might be a challenge though....
7mm Mauser brass from PPU will do, but you'll have to turn the necks. 6mm Rem. brass necked up to .257 also works, and without the neck-turning. Fire forming loads can be quite accurate. I wouldn't hesitate to use them for hunting.

ETA - The PPU Mauser brass is quite good. Pretty stout brass.
