Northern Iowa

Does anybody know of any 22lr bench rest matches in Nortern Iowa or Southern Minnesota. I would like to give it a try. I was looking for factory class. Then I would consider a new rifle but I would like to find the matches and see what sanctioning body is around 1st.

I shoot and also run a match in Iowa. Of the clubs mentioned above, if you want to shoot sanctioned matches, Hawkeye Rifle and Pistol Club (Sioux City, IA) and North Linn Fish and Game (Central City, IA) look like the same drive time. Minnetonka Gun Club (Minnetrista, MN just west of the twin cities) may also be close to the Iowa clubs in drive distance. Hawkeye has ARA Unlimited and Factory class, as does North Linn. North Linn also has IR50/50 3-Gun matches. Minnetonka has ARA Unlimited and Factory.

If sanctioned doesn't matter, the club in Mason City is the closest to you your town. They are not a sanctioned club for ARA or IR50/50, but they may have organized rimfire matches. The club I run is sanctioned IR50/50 3-Gun, but it's pretty far from you, being just outside of Blue Grass, IA.

I have shot Hawkeye once, and I shoot North Linn twice a month (ARA UL, IR50/50). I am not familiar with the other two clubs.

Thanks, all. I'm retiring next spring and looking forward to having more time to shoot, so I asked about matches in my area. My next question is about purchasing a rifle. I've narrowed it down to four choices: 1 CZ 457 American, which I like because of its classic look; 2&3 CZ 457 Varmint & Varmint MTR; and 4 Tikka T1X mtr. However, I prefer the look of wood. I would appreciate your thoughts on these rifles.

We have multiple cz 457s and Tikkas that shoot with us at my home range here in Iowa. I personally own one of each of the rifles you mentioned. PM me if you would like

If you aren't a member, join the Kossuth Rifle and pistol club in Algona. Other area ranges are: Mason City, Humboldt, Fort Dodge to start. Pretty sure Humboldt and Fort Dodge both shoot the Three Rivers League. Mason City has a new 50 yard indoor range that is supposed to be really good. Start with that and if you need more, send me a PM.
