In the absence of Neolube, is Lock Ease a sutible substitute?

No. Neolube contains micronized graphite in a predominantly alcohol carrier. Carrier flashes off leaving a thin, even coat of graphite. Lock Ease contains oil, and won’t lead to the graphite evenly coating case neck nor will it flash off.

If you're looking to use it as a pre-treatment with coated bullets, I really find no value in it. I simply fire a sighter/fouler or two instead. Some bbls seem to not even need that and others do. This is with danzac. You can also mix your own with alcohol and ws2. I've heard of others doing the same with hbn...fwiw

I run a patch of HBN thru my bores after cleaning. It does seem to make cleaning a bit easier.

I see Neolube for sale on Ebay for $48.00/2oz. I assume it is no longer made and that these folks are selling older product? I've never used it. Did you get good results with it? I have applied moly or HBN to my bullets mainly to prevent bullet weld and to provide better ES through more uniform bullet release, though I don't like doing that in my hunting loads due to several shots (or a great many more - depending on the rifle) needing to be fired to get things to settle down. I've used the Neco neck lube and many other products, none of which did much to prevent cold weld.
